Vets, how long did it take?

How long did it take until you stopped being surprised that you small clothes fit?  That you stopped feeling like a fat person?  When I look in the mirror it does not compute with how I feel about myself.

How long does it take for this to adjust?  I'm sure it is different for everyone, but curious to hear different perspectives.

I'm almost a year out, and I'm not there yet. I'm still shocked as h*ll when I put on something with a size beginning with the number 1... or a size that doesn't have an X after it... and it fits. And fits RIGHT.

No "vet" here, by any means- yesterday, as I was tugging my cutoffs up over my hips, I had that old "**** girl, your getting too fat for your pants- this is bad-bad" thought.  It took a moment for reality to catch up- that 1. I'm probably 4-5#s lighter than when I bought these, and 2. That, formerly, I always bought and wore my clothes extremely loose, and when they got tight, it was because I was gaining weight again.  Now, I wear my clothes to fit properly, that means they fit my body and are snug sometimes.

Yah, it takes a while to re-write those old tapes.  Take lots of pictures--look at them--go to the mall - thrift store- wherever- and spend the whole afternoon just trying on different outfits and checking yourself out in those lovely 3-view mirrors-front back, sideways.   Do wear clothes that fit properly-And, just give it time.  We are all a beautiful work in progress, here- on the inside as well as the outside; it's just that sometimes the inside takes a while to catch up with the outside.

i'm so not a vet but it was just recently that I stopped thinking of my weight as a number with a "2" in front of it.  Now I struggle with transposing the second two numbers.  I almost always say or think I'm "153" instead of "135".   Weird!

And I'm still amazed every day when I can pull on a pair of size 8 jeans with comfort and ease.  Every time I think "they're not gonna fit!"

So glad to hear I'm not the only one who transposes the 2nd two numbers!

I see chubby girl when I look in the mirror which is better than seeing the fat one, I guess.  But I'm still surprised when walking into a store and I see my reflection in the door and the girl I see is kinda thin!

I was talking to friend who has had the surgery already about this tonight. I am having my surgery tomorrow but have lost a total of 80lbs. so far. My work peeps keep telling me I look and act like a totally different person. I took some photos of myself to post on line but had a hard time seeing much change. I know I am wearing clothes that did not fit me a few months back and see the lower scale numbers but is hard to process. I know I feel GREAT and must focus on this.

I have adjusted and also noticed that I am forgetting what it was like being super obese... taking the thinner me for granted more.  I imagine this is part of why some of us struggle with regain. I am 2.5 years out.

I am 2 1/2 years out and still get shocked looking in the mirror. I'm just now getting use to looking at smaller clothes when I go shopping. I use to head straight to the XXL shirts first, now not so much. However, I look at the medium shirt and say no way until I actually try it on. I guess I'm still in that period of adjustment. I'll get there and so will you.

I'm almost 2.5 years post-op... It takes a while and sometimes I still feel fat. I am able to eat everything I want providing I do my 5-6 days a week at the gym... so I have "feeling fat" days still.  I'm not sure if your mind will ever catch up with your body! :)
