Timing of Things Like Exercise

I read an article the other day about what time of day people run and I thought it would make a fun topic here.

What time of day do you exercise when you do?  If it varies, why?  Why do you exercise at that time?  What makes it the right time for you?

What other scheduling/timing things do you have in your day that are new to you post-op?  Like.. do you have different meal times than you used to?  Or do you have a rule that you must have finished 32 ounces by 10am?

Tell us about your schedule and timing for things and why it works for you!  (I'll reply in a comment once I get home from my massage.  YAY MASSAGE DAY, BEST DAY.)

I exercise as soon as I get home from work, shower after, wait a bit, then dinner. Mostly because this schedule keeps me busy during evening hours when I would otherwise be tempted to eat. It's hard to mindlessly reach for more food when you've got dumbbells in your hands or are standing naked in the shower.

If I am going walking as part of my exercise -- that I usually do in the morning just because that's the only time it's cool enough to tolerate walking 2 brisk miles. Fall can't get here to Tennessee soon enough!

I have changed my schedule over the years as my life changes.

For weekdays:

I used to do all my workouts after work on the way home. I'm not a morning person and once I get home, that's it for me. I don't tend to go out again.

At one point I got laid off and could work out any time I wanted. I would generally do it in the afternoon but had a lot of group workouts that I was going to when I was still working that I kept going to.

These days I mostly workout in the morning. I find it really hard to leave wor****il at least 6:30pm but often much later and all the group workouts I used to do all start at 5:30 to 6:15pm so it's really hard to get to them. I'm still not really a morning person but it's been working so far.

For weekends:

I generally try to work out in the morning and be home before my family is up and about.

When I was doing Ironmans, I would go out Sat. mornings and not be bac****il dinner time though. And sometimes I'd miss a morning group workout and then I'd fit it in later in the day. Sometimes I'd be out in the neighborhood after dark running even! But mostly, if I wasn't doing a group workout in the morning, I'd do a solo one in the afternoon.

That hasn't really changed much except these days, if I don't do the morning workout, that tends to be it. No making it up in the PM -- mostly because of the kind of workouts I'm doing. I expect that to change this Fall as I do more running.

Usually in the late evening on weekdays after my husband gets home from work (I walk the hills in my neighborhood). Weekends I walk in the afternoons or early morning if it's going to be hot.

My exercise routine varies by day of the week, as I rely on classes at my gym for water aerobics and pilates work outs. I usually walk my dogs every day for about a mile in the evenings, and I also take one of them to agility training once a week. Once the weather cools a bit, I'll start biking again.

I've always found it easier to exercise at night, especially if I use a gym, 7pm, 10pm, later...

Weekends I enjoy a good midday run or tennis match in the extreme heat - feels cleansing - then a relaxing night.

I've done 7am exercise for over a year - hated it and knew it would not be a maintainable lifestyle.

Since the sleeve I drink a 25oz cup of water, then shower, then yogurt w/protein, then start my day - 7 days a week.

I've been thinking about tennis a bunch recently.  I blame my parents for always having tennis on when I visit and then when my mom and I walk together we walk past some courts.  Maybe someday I'll give tennis a go - I loved it when I was younger.

I like to exercise first thing in the morning.  It also works well with my schedule so no room for excuses!  Grab my protein shake, drop kids at preschool, head to gym which is close to school, then go home shower and start work in my home office.  I have found that although I probably enjoy an evening workout more than morning, I have too many excuses in the evening: kids, tired from work, dinner needs to be cooked, etc.  The other thing I do post op is schedule time for meals so that everyday I roughly eat about the same time.  Instead of the 3 meals I used to eat pre op, I now eat 4x a day.  It's quite common for me to be having a piece of chicken at 10am after a workout.  Pre op you couldn't have gotten me to eat a piece of chicken in the morning if my life depended on it!  Now I think differently, so I also plan my day differently I guess!
