Timing of Things Like Exercise

Oh great topic.  Mine total varies depending on the day.

Workdays:

Lunch

pro: breaks up the work day & there are great classes at this time.  This is my favorite time to work out.

con: meetings can get in the way, limited time

After work

pro: benefit make my commute so much better.  Additional classes available at my regular gym (but it is kind of stressful to get there on time)

con: I get home later and need an extra snack

Weekends

I like to workout from about 10-12.  It lets us sleep in and still have a full afternoon for activities.  My son likes to have lunch at the cafe at my gym, so it works out really well.

Hockey is starting soon, so that will have me working out late in the evenings a few days a week.

I'm definitely a morning exerciser.  I don't like eating in the morning, or before I exercise, so this has been working out really well for me.  I also try to adhere to "don't get distracted by the computer (or anything else)" on mornings that I don't have a time commitment for exercise.  It's suboptimal to get sucked into the computer when I have to go run in the morning and then I don't run until 11 and then I can't eat my first meal until 1pm and that just throws off my entire day!

I am planning to start adding one evening exercise class - thursday bhangra - just because it fits into my schedule so perfectly.  We'll see how my body deals with that.  But, for the most part, I like getting my exercise finished early so that I don't have to think about it the rest of the day.

My other sort of recently added "rule" is that I drink my 32 ounces of water with BCAA before I move on to drink anything else.  Well, aside from my daily protein shake.

There is no way in hell that I can do anything in the mornings, let alone exercise.  I can barely drag myself into the office before 9:30.  I'm just not a morning person.

I am a night owl.  I have no problem jumping on my recumbent bike or going for a walk at 9 or 10 at night.  I prefer to eat at least one hour before I exercise or my stomach feels bloated.  During the summer, I've spent evening and weekends in the pool doing water aerobics/strength training for hours.  I'm going to hate when the weather cools off and our unheated pool is no longer usable.

I foresee joining some sort of organized exercise class/gym in the future  and will try to avoid it as long as possible.  To quote Mickey Rourke (Charles Bukowski's alter ego) in Barfly - "I don't hate people.  I seem to feel better when they're not around."

Currently I'm drinking water from a 33 ounce plastic bottle.  It's my goal to finish one before 3:00 pm (I am so distracted during the day that I forget), then one on the drive home from work, and one more before I go to bed.

I walk with a friend at 10:30 am and 6 pm. I go to the gym, its usually in the afternoon. I have to eat six times a day according to my plan, its doesn't leave much time to drink my water by the time you have to wait 45 minutes.

My exercise routine varies because I work a 12 hour rotating shift. Days, nights, weekends, holidays, yep I'm workin, throw in some ot & my routine really gets screwed up, my exercise routine also varies by whatever the parking situation is by the gym & at home. For instance if I go after a mid, plenty of parking by the gym, but sleep gets messed up cuz now not only do I have to get to sleep during the day, but I'm ramped up after my workout. Same thing after a day watch.

For now I try to work out on my days off, or if I go after a mid, it's the first one b4 lack of sleep catches up with me on the later mids. If it's a day watch, to go b4 I go to work when it's out the way & I can find a parking spot.

The only things new to me post op is getting to my protein & water goals during the day. I find whenever I try to maximize the most I can get from my sleeve by eating protein & waiting as long as possible b4 I drink liquids again, either the protein drops off or the water does, so I end up having protein shakes, but I can't have too much otherwise my calorie count goes too high. It's a juggling act but hopefully I'll get it together.
