Hunger-Capacity-6 Months plus Out........Observation.....Eating till full.....

So, you have noticed you can eat more..... and more as time goes on....

I/we have been reading about this for years but more just in the last year.....

Here is the interpretation and reality.

If you still within your program guidelines, losing weight your probably fine.

For those that "notice" you have hunger and "can eat more" and have "increased capacity" and are not losing weight or weight loss has come to a crawl.....

That means your program is to "eat till your full".

That means your not portioning your food.

That means your knowingly going over your numbers.

That means you might not be eating the right foods.

That means your going by restriction.

The key is to eat fixed/measured amounts that is under your capacity.

Eating till full is a big reason why we got fat.

This is a "general" observation and I realize there are other cir****tances and it does not pertain to "all".

I totally agree!  When I go out to eat or eat w/ family, I eat more.  No question. 

When I cook for myself at home and pack my lunch for work (always for lunch, more dinners out lately), I have very small portions.  I do not get full, but I am satisfied.  

Satisfied and filling nutritional needs should be the goal.

Deb, I love the quote about permanent weight loss requires permanent lifestyle change.   I believe HW is heaviest weight, GW is Goal weight... What is CW/SW?

Thanks for the input, Frisco. I am struggling a little in this realm.  I notice that I get my "full" feeling if I eat about 2 1/2 oz of protein, so I try to have a little less and stop before that point. It can be hard to gauge because different things make me full quicker. I recognize we should be stopping before we get to that full feeling. Here is part of the problem...I feel like I am getting hungry again to soon after eating, often. I don't think I should be hungry again only 2 hours after eating. Consequently I probably tend to eat too close to my full feeling trying to prevent getting hungry again too soon.  I'm feeling a little lost trying to figure out this balance.  I asked my doctor (nurse for the surgeon actually) and she said when my stomach is all healed and less swollen, by about 3 months post op (I am 2 months now), I will be able to eat more and therefore get hungry less often. Confusing... Any tips?

Okay I am not Frisco and this was not directed at me, feel free to reject anything I have to say.

I think you are treating hunger as something that must be avoided at all costs, even at the cost of potentially over-eating, damaging your sleeve capacity, etc. What I would say is focus on learning to live with hunger. You can be hungry and have it not be an emergency. Starvation is an emergency. Hunger is not. I find it helps if I make myself an eating schedule for the day. That way if I get hungry, I can tell myself, "okay, you are hungry now, but you can wait until 5 PM when you'll have the beef jerky snack. Focus on something else until then."

Hunger is not fun but you can deal with it for a couple of hours, and learning to put it aside and focus on something else is a crucial skill that most of us need to learn. I know I still struggle with it but I am trying and I have improved a lot.

Thank you for the input. I appreciate it. I am glad you said this. I hadn't really thought about it the way you explained it. I have been contemplating, since starting the pre op diet, that feeling true hunger is pretty rare for me. Probably has been for lots of us here historically. I've been working on recognizing that feeling a little hungry is actually ok and isn't really a bad feeling... just new to me!  LOL. This is all definitely a learning experience. I guess I can't figure I will have it all worked out by 2 months out, but I keep trying. The experiences of those ahead of me, like you, is so valuable!  I hope to be as successful as you someday!
