Working out post op
So I was wondering as soon as you ae cleared to work out and I don't mean walking I mean lifting and strength training are there limitations still? I mean I'm 24 never been pregnant have no kids so I'm hoping I won't have too much excess skin because I plan on working out pretty hard. Is this some fantasy I have or can I make it happen? I want abs someday lol
Okay, the straight answer is usually four weeks.
However, there are two facts you must embrace....
First, exercise is a terrible way to loose weight. The dietary choices you make account for 80-90% of weight loss. They are almost 100% of long term successful weight loss (it's actually 95.4% statistically). So abandon the idea that you're going to boost your weight loss by spending hours doing cardio or weights. More on this in a second though. Second fact, you don't need to do ab exercises to get abs (or the tushy either). Abs are made in the kitchen.
The main benefit of exercise is health and fitness. Every pound you loose will make you more healthy. In fact, your medical risk will diminish greatly long before you reach goal. However, you could loose all the weight and still not be considered totally healthy or fit even though you'll be "more" healthier than you were. That is what exercise addresses. Doing it right from the start, whatever you can manage, is the better path.
At your age, and weight, you have a good chance to get what you want (the abs) as long as you're not super short. Even then the odds are in your favor, but remember, genetics will determine the ultimate answer. With all the right diet and exercise, you body will only reach the shape it was intended to be. Hopefully that will match the picture in your head.
To achieve all this (the weight loss and especially the abs) you want to become "fat adapted". Google that or NSNG or Vinnie Tortorich and you'll find the gateway to information on how to setup your journey. The general idea is "no sugars no grains" because those are what made us fat to start with. It turns out that you don't get fat by eating fat. You want to eat high fat, high protein, and carbs from veggies. If you do this, your journey towards goal will be super easy. Eventually, once you learn you can trust the advice, you won't even bother counting calories. If I told you my numbers, you wouldn't believe me. Just try it out fir yourself.

I've seen pictures of people who started with your numbers (no you're not short) and ended up freaking awesome. I'm talking they went from whatever they were to stone cold 10's. No kidding.
So the fact that you're handling this at a younger age will help but is no guarantee. Just follow the path to where it leads and whatever happens will be a monumental improvement.
Also, just a piece of advice, expect the full conversion to take two years from surgery. I'm talking full weight loss and body toning combined. When things are going slow just remember it's a two year journey and every day you work is part of that journey.

We are cleared at our 6 week post op visit for strenuous exercise and the weight restriction is lifted. They do want us to take it easy on our abs for another month. Unfortunately for me, 6 weeks wound up being more like 8 weeks, but I get cleared tomorrow and I'm pretty psyched! I love strength training.
G5X5, I have to agree with you. I am preop still and started my journey on 12/9. That was the day of my consult and when I got home, I bagged up all carbs: breads, pastas, rice and potatoes and gave them to my parents. I lost the bulk of my presurgery weight by only eating carbs in green veggies like broccoli, spinach and green beans, in cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and peppers. I also ate cheese, cottage cheese, ff lite Greek yogurt, meats and eggs. I started adding in fruits (strawberries, blueberries and peaches) in my protein shakes per my NUT. She also told me to start adding a few carbs so I tried the low carb tortillas and tried eating half a bun on a burger, but noticed that these things slowed my weightloss, so I cut them again. I truly don't miss them unless I take a bite of them and then the addiction begins...

There's actual science behind what you experienced both on the weight loss and hunger. The stuff I mentioned above will lead you to it. However, there's a couple books you could jump straight to "Wheat Belly" and "Grain Brain".
I cook in olive oil, I eat nuts, full fat cheese, dark chocolate and steak every day while re-loosing the last 20 pounds at the same or better pace as I lost it originally. All that with easily twice the calories as the first time through, but I don't even count calories anymore and my hunger control is even better. Plus, when I feel like it, I have ice cream. The only difference between the two times is I'm 100% on the NSNG guidelines now which are in-line with our barriactric rules. And, I'm not a solo example, this works for anyone, with or without surgery. Surgery just adds I higher guarantee and a greater check and balance.
For anyone interested, you can also boost sports performance using this method, but for that you need to learn more directly for the the sources as it's too lengthy for posting here.

When I made it to 6 weeks post-op I was cleared for everything. Sadly, if you're going to have loose skin, you're going to have loose skin - there's nothing you can do to prevent it.
