Point of clarification here - while RNY impacts alcohol metabolism, my understanding is that VSG may not be the same.

Not to get into dueling studies, but here is a recent example of a small VSG specific study that found no change post op. http://www.theverticalsleeve.com/alcohol-metabolism-is-not-affected-by-sleeve-gastrectomy/

Alcohol causes the same physiological reaction inside the intestine no matter which surgery you had. The only difference is that with RNY ay there is less intestine so it reaches the lower intestine faster and therefore metabolizes differently.

Regardless of which surgery, no way does someone become dehydrated from ONE alcoholic drink if they were adequately hydrated before. Nope. Not a chance.

Regardless of the study, since surgery, 2 sips and I'm toast...so never again

No doubt about it alcohol definitely hits me faster and harder... and where I need 2 drinks to have a buzz now 2 to 3 oz can do it.... Also I feel a funny burning sensation as the drink hits my tummy!!! Sounds weird but I'm dead serious!!! :-)

Yeah, alcohol can hit us faster because our stomachs empty faster. Also is a diuretic. I really think it was dehydration due in part to wine. Defibately not falling down drunk. I remember that from college days. But we all must be cautious and have water if we drink. Lesson learned. I am guzzling water these days and feel better. We are 98 percent  h2o.  D
