I am still in the pre-op stages :(

But I have a couple question about exercise.

1.What can you do the first 6 weeks post-op ?

2. What can you do after that time frame (is there restrictions) ?

3. The best kind of exercise ?

 Thanks :)

I was only allowed to walk for 6 weeks.

After that I could do anything my body let me do!  I ramped up slowly to avoid injury, but now I'm training for a 5k and I do yoga, zumba, water aerobics, tai chi, Pilates, and Bhangra.

The best exercise? That's the one you'll enjoy enough to keep doing. It's different for everyone :) (And don't believe anyone biased enough to tell you otherwise.)

My surgeon and NUT said go for it after week 3. I started at week 4. I lifted weights before surgery (they knew that) and that is what I started doing after surgery. I will say that 4 weeks with only walking left my muscles like jello. That first day back was rough. I could barely do my leg workout. Before surgery I could bench press 180-200 pounds with my legs. After, I was not even doing half without struggling. It gets better though. I notice recovery from my workouts takes longer too. So instead of just weights I mix in a little cardio.... elliptical or treadmill. My doctor also suggested I get in a good protein source after those workouts to help with healing those sore, achy muscles.
