Surgery last Tuesday, tired and guilty for sleeping

I had surgery on the 23rd. I made my 8 oz shake and put it in 3 containers to sip them wait half hour, then sip water until the shakes are done. Will repeat later this afternoon. I am supposed to get 64 oz of liquid besides the shake, this might not happen. Also, I have a headcold and the drainage is making me nauseated!

I am freezing cold all the time and I don't have a ton of energy. I am supposed to be walking a mile by now, but am unable to do that much. And I am so very tired. Why do I feel so guilty when I nap?

I had mine the 24th and I am feeling cold all the time as well. Where do you think your suppose to be walking a mile by now? My doctor said to not do a whole of anything for about of week. He did say to get up and walk so I do not get blood clots but that's it. I am also having issues with the fluid intake as well. it is hard but you just need to keep on sipping.

Hi Trin. My plan say I should be working my way up to a mile week 1, and 2 miles week 2.

I wonder of the coldness is from all the IV fluids they pumped me with in case I was nauseated when I got home? I am really never cold so this is new to me. It is 75 degrees outside and I babe on fleece pants, socks, a tee shirt, fleece jacket and a fleece blanket on my lap!

Oh wow, you people must be ex drill sergeants.LOL. My doc said week one is to get over the surgery but that i should walk 30 min. Week 2 I should go back to the regime I was doing pre op and working my way up. But I guess every plan is different. The coldness I live in Texas were it is still 80+ degrees and I have needed a cover since my surgery.

Relax and drop the nap-guilt! :) All of this sounds totally normal.  You've just had major surgery and your body needs lots of energy to heal.  Nap as often as you like, and use an electric blanket if you have one to keep warm.  All of that will pass.  I wouldn't worry about walking a mile, but get up and walk around fairly often. Other than that, just sip-sip-sip as much as you can - water and protein, water and protein. It will get easier and easier as the days go by.  Be gentle with yourself!

I also had sugary on the 23rd.  Didn't get out of the hospital until yesterday as I had some internal bleeding they were waiting to clear up.  Listen to your body and do what you can.  The eating and drinking are important with the emphasis on the drinking.  I've been sleeping soundly and well at night.  Last night went o be at 9:00 pm and got up a 7:00 am.  (two trips to the bathroom).  I usually sleep 10 pm until 6 am, but I assume my body needs the extra rest.  Also, last time I checked, I'm over 300# and I'm never cold, until now.  Especial when sleeping, I have to be really bundled up.  You just made a major life changing decision, so you are courages, don't let anyone make you feel guilty.  Keep the faith.

As far as waiting half an hour between shakes and water, check your plan but I didn't have to. It's only between liquid and solid food. Liquid is liquid.  No waiting required. Your boby needs rest to heal! Don't push to hard this soon. Healing should be your top priority now. Good luck!

yep, nap all you want and dont worry.  just get up and move around so you don't get pneumonia or blood clots.  if you are nauseous your doc should give you an anti nausea med. there are lots of good ones. no need to put up with it.  and yeah get the electric blanket. everyone goes through a "cold" phase though for some its later than others. don't worry about that mile. just do what you feel you can.  do a hot shower to warm yourself up.   gl . it gets better. diane.
