Random thoughts and reflections...

I started changing my eating habits in December, 2013. Befire then, I would eat chips, junk, fast food. I would go on eating binges and then try and eat healthy, which didn't last long. Then I would start the cycle all over again.

Last December on the day of my initial consult, I came home and gave all my bread, pasta and other carb foods to my folks. I went shopping for bell peppers, onions, garlic, frozen broccoli, spinach, yellow and zuchini squash and frozen cauliflowet. I also bought ground turkey, tuna, lean beef/pork, chicken and turkey bacon. Also I bought deli turkey, ham and cheese sticks. I started using MFP and I got myself a FitBit and started eating about 800-1100 calories a day and I gradually started walking.

I am so glad that my center and/or insurance company made me get on a 6 month medical weightloss program instead of having the surgery right away, it gave me the opportunity to change my eating habits before the surgery.

I was talking with my sister yesterday about what I eat since the surgery. I am on the pureed stage now but start the soft phase on Tuesday. I was telling her that now since my portions are smaller, I truly and mindful of the types, textures and flavors of the food I eat, because I don't want to waste my time eating things that aren't going to fuel my body, and things that aren't savory. Before December, 2013, I wasn't thinking that way, I simply ate to get full and didn't really care much about the quantity or quality.

Thanks for letting me babble my random thoughts.

Its good to hear your story of how you changed your eating habits before surgery.  My program also stressed "practicing" the post-surgery diet before surgery to help establish new and healthier eating habits.  It was helpful for me as well.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey.  It sounds like you are off to a great start!

Thank you for posting this. I feel like that's where I am at currently - supervised WL plan and getting my head in the game. My NUT told me the goal is to jot gain weight but I want to fully utilize this phase. I feel inspired... Thank you

More rambling that I almost forgot about, but as important: I started seeing a general therapist about 5 months into the process (I had gone to about 4 sessions). She really helped me with setting boundaries at my job, and she helped with job related stress. I switched therapists and had my first session with her (she deals with eating disorders) last Tuesday. This too, I hope, will help me stay on track and help me get to the bottom of why food plays such an abnormal part in my life.
