Is pregnancy possible after vsg? I've seen a fee post op vsg girls miscarriage . I do not want to have a surgery that takes away my chances to have a baby. I do not want to have try until atleast three years post op. I know they want you to wait atleast a year or two. Anyone have a full term pregnancy after?

there are lots of people that have had babies after wls , you just need to adjust your nutrition < go to a great nut and ob gyn that  knows about wls

I have never heard that there is a problem with miscarriages  after wls

I actually  found out why I had a bunch of miscarriages 30 years ago when they did my pre op blood work , I have a genetic  blood disorder that courses blood clots and misscarrages (lupus anticoagulant anti gen ,not lupus) the treatment to,prevent miscarriages is a baby aspirin a day but it was unknown back then

It is totally possible. As a matter of fact, when you're losing weight your hormones are kind of out of whack and you become EXTREMELY fertile. Like, use condoms on top of your normal birth control method fertile. It is recommended that you wait at least two years so you can have taken the most advantage of the weight loss journey you're on before you have to start gaining weight to grow another human inside of you. :)

From the reading I've done, I don't think it's that you become "EXTREMELY" fertile, but comes down to weight loss removing barriers, and returning body functions to normal, that act negatively on the fertility process.

Either way, the effect is the same.

i'm going on 4 months post op...and i was diagnosed with PCOS..so i'm hoping the surgery will help with that...My surgeon requires you wait a minimum of a year...I'm 36..so i'm going to start preparing my body for pregnancy soon..he wants me to start taking prenatal pills come january..so that would give me 6 months of preparation..because i won't stop taking bc pills until July 2015 :) The food intake and vitamins will be a priority in order to have a healthy baby. I met a patient at a support group that had a normal..healthy 6 pounds baby after surgery..so it is possible you will just have to have different guidelines than a "normal" female.

certainly it is possible. The VS g is done on the stomach not the uterus. There is no reason one could not carry a pregnancy full term.

People have happy healthy babies every day after all wls procedures.  The important part is for Mom to be on top of their nutritional health.  The baby could suck them dry from nutrients otherwise.

#1 reason I had the sleeve was my OB-GYN telling me to do it before I got pregnant. She said her patients who have pregnancies post-op have a MUCH easier time getting pregnant and giving birth.

medically speaking  pregnancy at a lower weight post-wls is safer than a pregnancy at a morbidly obese weight.

I am 14w pregnant and just about 8m post op VSG.  I had a birth control failure and ended up pregnant sooner than the ideal 18-24m wait post-op, sooner than we planned for our family too.

BUT - so far so good.  My vitamin labs are normal, the baby is healthy and growing well (have had 2 ultrasounds already), and I am still losing a little weight in the process.  the WLS clinic gave me guidelines to have vitamin blood draws every trimester, increase fluids and protein but not to stress over calories as long as baby is growing well.  My OB will have me get growth ultrasounds on baby in the 3rd trimester to make sure it is growing well - but for now - she considers me NORMAL.

I was pregnant in the 300s for my first 2 kids and was high risk because of obesity associated high blood pressure.  This time I am in the 230s and so far no medical issues requiring high risk status.

pregnancy after WLS can be totally safe as long as mom is paying attention to her nutrition and the medical team is aware of the situation and monitors things appropriately.
