weight loss & hair loss
So my weight loss is significantly slowing down. I'll be 5 months out on 12/30 and iI've only lost 5 lbs since the beginning of November. I'm concerned that it's slowing down already and I still have at least 60 lbs to go. I'm eating between 700 -800 cals per day and I'm getting in between 65-80g of protein per day. I'm not exercising much these days as I haven't had much time due to the holidays and starting a new job. Could lack of exercise be the reason? I'm still drinking 1 protein shake per day and I haven't been weighing my food as much bc I've gotten accustomed to eye balling my portions and recognizing when I'm full. Any suggestions?
As my weight loss slows my hair loss is increasing. At first it was a few strands here and there but now my hair is coming out in clumps especially when I shower. I know there are a ton of posts on this but I'm posting this from my phone and the search function isn't working. Can anyone who has gone through this tell me when your hair loss stopped?
My advice is not to sweat it. Weight loss slows over time and the last 20 will take significantly longer than the first took. I've got 80 pounds to go and I don't think I've lost anything since thanksgiving. But I know I'll reach my goal if I stick to my plan, so I'm not worried. It's not a race :)

Are you seeing a therapist? That might help you to conquer your feelings of discouragement!

There's not a thing you can do about hair loss, except a new cut or style. It will grow back.
Most people seem to have a little slowdown in loss at 5 or 6 months, and then a little uptick. It might just be diet fatigue. But a red flag for me is when you say you haven't been weighing your food as much. It's really easy for portions to creep up. It takes very little extra at each meal to add a few hundred calories to your total. Go back to weighing portions and tracking every bite, and see what happens.

As others have said, you should weigh food to be sure.. for the hair loss, not much you can do about it.
I've cut my hair shorter (shoulder length) with lots of layers and put some highlights in it to thicken it up a little. I like it shorter, it seems sassy :) makes me grin when I see it in the mirror.
You could try a volumizing shampoo to see if it helps. When I wasn't able to get into the shower to wash my hair, I used herbal essences dry shampoo and that made me hair seem fuller.
I wouldn't take biotin.. I've seen a few posters say they grew hair in other places other then their head.. that's kinda skeery.
My hair loss was the absolute worst from 5-8 months post-op....bad! By the end of it I had lost at least half my hair and I didn't have a ton of it to start with :-( It's coming back and at 19 months post-op is almost back to normal.
That's my story - plenty of other people rebound quicker than I did.
I just reached my 5 month mark. I've lost 120 lbs. I continue to lose 4 to 6 pounds every week. I have 70 lbs. to go. I eat between 700 and 800 calories a day but little to NO carbs. That is what I believe keeps me losing. My carb intake is around 10 - 20 a day at the most. No breads, No fruits, No pasta, None. I also do some type of physical activity every day. I started taking BIOTIN before surgery and continue to take it every day. Have had NO Hair loss. I know some feel it does not work. It seems to be working for me. Good Luck!
I know what your feeling, I am only 54 days out and have been through 2 stalls.
The first one was the bad one, I lost a total of 1 pound in 10 days. I thought I was doing something wrong.
When that one broke, I shed 20 pounds in a week! And felt good doing it.
The second one lasted 4 days, no loss. Then BAM, 3 days of 3 or more pounds a day, and one of nearly 5.
It seems to me that my body finally accepts the fact that I am not going to give it any junk, and gets with the program.
I've been eating veggies at dinner daily and I think that has made a real difference.
I don't weigh my portions anymore, I know I can't eat 3 or 4 oz of anything. The sleeve stops me at around 2.
I don't even track calories like in the beginning, I just eat mindfully.
So half protein, and half veggies seem to be the trick right now. This may change tomorrow, but I feel balanced right now.
Feels so good to see the physical changes going on. This thing is truly amazing.
I have a long way to go, but I look forward to the changes tomorrow will bring.
I wonder how to "turn it off" after I hit my goal weight. Lol
I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
Good luck, stay excited , and enjoy the whole journey.
