My nut/surgeon's office counts it towards liquid. I think they are a little more generous than most when it comes to coffee as they told me I could have it day 1 and would even go get it for me if I felt like it (which I didn't )
I was told coffee is a diuretic and can give you an ulcer (depending on how far out you are) / contribute to acid reflux.
