Looking Back

Just found the best motivation and the best thing to get back on track...go back in your profile and re-read your posts from the time of surgery to the present. Remember what you went through, who you were, how you have changed. What you didn't like and what you like now. It is a huge eye opener and a real kick in the ars. I know what I don't want to go back to now.

This is a great suggestion.  Instead of thinking "How can I keep doing this forever?"  I should ask myself, "Knowing what you've been thru with your struggle with obesity,  How can you consider stopping!"

Thank goodness for the sleeve.  It gives us the possibility for a normal weight.

Exactly, I have been really down on myself and not paying attention lately. Im up roughly 10 pounds from my lightest, had VSG about 2 years ago. Just had tummy tuck and breast implant/lift in January, so I am still retaining water and swelling BUT you know that darn scale. I happened to stumble across my old posts, started reading them and the goals I had set...and it just came to me. Get your stuff together, start focusing or else you are heading back. And I don't want my goal in life to "be able to sit in an airplane, chair seat comfortably", I want to live and feel great every day instead.

This post really helped me out yesterday.  I was having wicked, persistent cravings.  The story in my head was something like this last night shortly after dinner:

  • "I'm hungry."
  • "No your not."
  • "I need to eat."
  • "No you don't."
  • "Ok...short pause ... I'm Hungry."
  • "Hunger isn't an emergency."
  • "OK,  I can sit with the hunger... its ok.  I can do this."
  • "Short pause... but I'm hungry."
  • and on and on or hours until I finally fell asleep.

The previous night I gave in and had some humus and crackers, but last night I stuck to my plan.  But it is so clear to me why we fail when the urge to eat is so persistent.

Who said that wls was the easy way out?

You are not alone. I had the same conversation in my head. Im happy the post helped you because it definitely has helped me to start seeing straight. Its never going to be easy, but hey life isn't.

I think you and I are about the same amount of time out from surgery. I remember seeing you post all the time too back then. I unfortunately stopped posting and stopped coming to the site and reading, and I think that was a mistake too. Its time to take it back to basics. Consistency and pacing wins the race :)
