How long after VSG could you eat a plate of food?

Exactly what the title says. Just wondering when I'll be able to go out for dinner and eat more than a couple bites.

I'm 15 months out and I can't eat a full plate of anything.  And probably never will.  That's kind of the point of having the surgery.  You're forever going to be restricted to the amount of food you'll be able to eat at any one time.

My dad's girlfriend got the surgery and is 2 yrs out and can eat a full plate. Obviously, she stretched her stomach back out but, just saying, it's possible.

Even at 2.5 years out, a "plate of food" is, at most, 2 - 3oz of meat and a couple of green beans or a small piece of broccoli. That's it, and I got there about 9 months after surgery.

Eating out can be a challenge for sure; most of us get used to taking home LOTS of leftovers. But surgery works (mostly) by limiting how much we can eat. If you eat a full plate, the same amount you would have eaten pre-op, you're not getting the benefit of your surgery.

I think you have to define what a "Plateful of food" means.  If you mean a regular dinner plate filled with food, then the answer is probably never.

I'm 3 years post op, and I regularly eat between 4 and 6 ounces of food per meal.  That's a small plate full of food.  I could probably eat 8 ounces, but I am careful to under-eat my sleeve.  It gives me enough calories, and prevent me from feeling uncomfortable being over-full.

best wishes,

Carol

4.5 years out. if you are referring to a full portion dinner entree, can't come close. I have a large sleeve compared to most folks on this board, and I am 6'2'' so fairly tall. At best, I can eat what would be considered a small adult portion. Most times, not quite that much. A "big" meal for me would be 3-4 ounces of steak, a small side salad, and just a few bites of potatoe or something similar. Even that would have to be eaten fairly slowly. On the other hand, slider food far more. If I were to start dinner with a basket of chips and salsa, I could put that down if swigging a drink along the way plus the meal. Just depends on what you order.  If it helps, you won't mourn eating huge portions. You feel just as satisfied/full on that small vsg portion as you do prior to surgery with a heaping plate.

depends on how big your plate is! I can eat 3-4 oz of meat and some veggies or bread at a meal, thats it. Like others have said, if you're talking a big plate at a restaurant, the answer is probably never.

Are you serious? A "plate full"..... I work on it ever day that eating that amount NEVER happens. lol

4-6 ounces a meal. Food has become a fuel, not a hobby. When I go out, I order from the kids menu, or appetizers or have the people I'm out with know that they can freely enjoy themselves from my plate, so I always grab something different then the rest.
