Another happy retirement day. The summer was busy, both with having long term house guests and the necessary disruptions that brought, along with happy and fun things too. Having my mornings to myself this week is blissful. Today after a slow start, I went to Costco right after it opened. What fun to shop without crowds or a sense of urgency. I looked at a lot of things they sell that I never knew about. I bought jammies and Tilamook cheese, pre sliced for portion control. Speaking of, I did talk myself out of buying a couple of things because the amount was just too much and DH and I don't need the temptation hanging around: I'm looking at you delicious artisan loaf of cranberry walnut bread. When I was working we wasted so much food. I'm working to reduce the waste, while also trying to be more deliberate about meals.
When we visited my parents, my Mom asked if I was missing anything from work. Nope. Not one single thing, with the exception of my favorite co workers. I am completely happy to not be doing any of the work I did, including not getting up at 6am. I don't even want to stop by and visit. Maybe some day further down the road. As I was going to bed last night, feeling so content, and looking forward to the coming day, it occurred to me that if everyday is a Saturday, every night is a Friday night.
The visit with my parents went pretty well. The weather was so nice and we got my Mom out on the deck. She really can't go out there anymore unless someone is visiting, because she can't get out of the deck chairs unless there is a person on each arm. She assures me that she could with just my Dad's help (which I can see is not true). I asked them to please wait until there is someone else standing by while they test their theory, or they'll end up having to call the paramedics to pick my Mom up off the ground. Since her hosptial stay, there is a weekly nursing visit, and next week a PT will be coming twice a week for a few weeks, and I think OT also. That is, if my Mom continues to allow it. Hopefully she will. These are time limited services though, because they are about rehab after a hospital stay. I think if she would agree to start palliative care it could be ongoing. She has been offered it many times, but turned it down. And she will NOT accept a bath aide. The only person she wants to take care of that is my SIL, who is a home health CNA. I hope they are paying her, since it is her actual career (I think they are), but she is already so heavily booked she doesn't get there enough and my Mom is so unkept.
This afternoon I will make Ratatouille, which will be awesome to have on hand for a snack, or a side for a meal. Tomorrow evening, we invited BFF, Nephew and his children over for a bonfire. His soon to be ex wife is out of town vacationing with one of her online affair partners, so he has had the kids every day for over a week. This means BFF stays with him because he leaves for work at 4:30am, and she gets the kids off to school on his custody days. I'm glad the soon to be ex took off out of town. Ugh, what if she had wanted the kids to meet this person? They are so much better off being with nephew.
A little movement downward on the scale again without much deprivation. I am measuring/tracking a few things, not really dieting, but trying to be more aware of what I am eating. Definitely, I am eating if I am hungry, but I am trying to be more mindful of what I am eating to mute that hunger. More fruits and vegetables as snacks, or something with protein like a cheese stick. Always a work in progress!
yeah on the house offer! Can't wait to see pictures once the offer is excepted. (Fingers crossed)
I hope you are wearing super duper compression socks. Do they think the clots are a surgery complication or from travel or both? Are you taking a blood thinner?
Oh wow! Best of luck on your offer!!!!
And thank goodness nothing was serious with your foot. That sounds like a weird thing to happen.

Sorry I have AWOL. We have been super busy!
121.3. About where I was when we left for FL. I'm still not recording in MFP and am rather liking it!
We saw 3 houses each on Monday and Tuesday and took a second look at 2 of them on Wednesday to decide which one we would put an offer on. Tuesday I unfortunately spent 5 hours in the ER with concerns of blood clots in my left foot. Thankfully, they are just superficial and won't break off and kill me, but the top of my foot is quite painful. Incisions are still looking great and I have more energy each day!
We got home late afternoon yesterday and then worked with our realtor digitally to get an offer completed. The sellers will get the offer this morning and we will play the waiting game to see if it is accepted!

No news from Paula yet. I hope no news is good news.
No bathtub reglazing to report - it was rescheduled until tomorrow. We went to the beach instead and sat under an umbrella getting a bit of a breeze and had lunch at the club. Very sultry day.
Today is yoga for me and golf for DH. Happy Hour then who knows what for dinner.
First a Justice walk. I think I am only giving him one or two more pain pills then stopping as he seems fine.
Have a fulsome Friday!

Maybe the glass people are on a silent protest (wink).
Stick to your guns about that garage. My DH periodically says he would like to be able to put both cars in up north but to do that he might actually have to get rid of a couple of the multiple tool chests which he never uses or perhaps to pare the beach chairs down from about 30+. Or maybe discard some off the broken tools or non-functioning AC window units.

I like the not one cubic inch boundary. A line must be drawn and held when it comes to creeping clutter.
Greetings all
It is a great fall day here. Morning was crisp but the sun is out now. I love fall best. Today I decided to drive by this one house I saw was for sale. It's off some winding roads in a woodsy area with lots of redwoods. The street was gated so I didn't see the place but was reminded of all the interesting and wonderful little neighborhoods we have here. I stopped at the store and had an "ah" moment when I could feel the sun on my back and hear folk music coming from the little farmers market. Life is pretty good in this funky little hamlet.
So glad Justice did well this time Liz. A good boy. Bathtub report please.
DD isn't it grand to rediscover weekday mornings where the neighborhood is peaceful and everything is relaxed. I guess it is the time of year when birds leave. Hoping you get a few more weeks of porch days.
So this morning I sent off the $25k check to buy the car at the end of the lease. This is with the 10k discount. The sales tax is really going to bite. oh well, we have had the car 18 months and it does not even have 5k miles on it. Cream puff. DH is actually making noises like he is going to clean out the garage. It has something to do with the new garage door that is coming next week. Well it that is what it takes. He says he wants to be able to get both cars in. I got news: that won't happen unless he actually gets rid of some stuff. We shall see.....I informed him that NOTHING from the garage is coming inside. Not one cubic inch.
I went to the studio and made a few things. Glass studio sits unused. Our staff is scurrying around with the rest of the shelving projects.
Deli turkey sandwich for dinner but I got a few things for weekend meals.

Sorry that you have to deal with the events at your parent's home. Must be exhausting.
But nice that you can view your world and the changes of the seasons in a way you didn't have time to previously. I think the first time I had a similar experience was in the late spring when I became aware of how loud the birds were in the yard - the opposite of this time of year in the north.

Good news about Justice! Your new clinic seems like a good fit.
I sat on the porch this morning with a blanket, drinking my tea. Although it's supposed to be a high of 78 today, it's cold in the morning. I am kind of stunned by how much the light has changed in the month I was gone. I know the light changes, and the sun stays lower in the sky everyday this time of year, but I've never been able to sit on the porch in September mornings and observe just how much. It's 10am and no sun has touched my house. With all the trees and the hill on the south side, it's not high enough anymore. Once the leaves drop we will get plenty of morning sun, but it's so dark right now. And it's so quiet. I think many of my songbird friends left. I hear a few cheaps, but nothing like the concert going on during the summer. It's interesting to observe these details that I never registered before as I was leaving at 7am and returning after 4pm.
Today we are going to my parents house as soon as DH gets home at noon. My brother texted me earlier this week that my Dad got mad about the answering machine, that he couldn't turn it off, and he unplugged everything, and ripped stuff out of the wall, including Wifi. Luckily my Mom is adept with her cell phone and texted him and asked him to come and fix it. Reports were that it wasn't easy. Nothing with them is.
I struggled with posting some pictures of our visit with our Aunt and Uncle, because my Mom gets so jealous. But other family members do want to see the pictures, and it is an authentic representation of my life that I want to share. When she gets angry that someone else got some of my attention or that I traveled ,I just tell myself (and sometimes my Mom) that I haven't done anything wrong. People go on vacations. The last visit went well, but my Aussie sister took the brunt of complaints before I got there. There have been no other visitors except my brother since then. I'll hope for the best. If it's crazytown when we get there, well, I've been there before.
I'm out of Diet Coke!! Now that my tea is finished, Time to make a quick run to the store. Tomorrow I'll go to Costco and stock up : )
My weight is down a little bit more today. I like this trend.
