Our best friends are Pain Killer aficionados and have taught WI bartenders how to make them. They got hooked on them in Jamaica (which they are visiting right now) so I had to send them the pic of yours from yesterday. I bought Hurricane glasses and will buy the ingredients to make them when they visit us this Spring. I personally like Mojitos, not so sweet!

Pleasanton is just about a 30 minute drive south from my house. I'm just on the other side of Mt. Diablo.

When I started going out a fair amount I thought the incisions and remaining after affects of surgery were really obvious but nobody seemed to notice them.

Screens are on lanais and over pools because of mosquitoes and other nasty biting bugs that thrive in standing water which is an issue in Florida especially in the showery times of year (and also with the humidity). The first time I visited California (Pleasanton) I was amazed that there were no biting bugs at night (Massachusetts has them in the summer too).

They all taste a bit different. Soggy Dollar and Pussers are definitely the best - Pussers is a bit more creamy. But both have fresh grated nutmeg on top which is so much better than the pre-ground stuff. The ones on our boat don't have nutmeg at all.

Good morning!

199.6

Well, this is indeed a first in many years! I'm in onederland two days in a row. I believe the last time I was this weight was 2014 or 2015. I can't check because the online site I used to use to track is now defunct. What I do know is that post VSG goal weight (170) was reached July 2012. By July 2013 I was 188. It was basically an upward trajectory from that point forward with one back to barely under 200 drop in the early part of 2016. It is stunning to realize that it has been 14 years since my VSG and that my weight and body size has been such an overwhelming part of my thinking and daily life since July of 2011 when I first started exploring WLS. I stand by my belief that without the VSG I never would have come to understand my disordered eating and spent the years in therapy and nutritional counseling.

So now, I must work at maintaining this new weight range. However, I must also be willing to accept that the 2 pound drop is most likely water from my gut ails (which btw, continue... ugh). It is more than likely as I recover that the water weight will return. But, today it is what it is and I'm all smiles!

I am feeling "well" enough that I will go visit my dad today. It's been almost a week since my brother saw him last, so I really must go. I feel like I look good enough to appear in public without people having double takes. If someone looks intently at my face, they will see the incisions and swelling and bruising, but in passing, I think I'm okay.

Paula, you will be a 12 month resider in Florida now, correct, not a snowbird? The video of the wind at your house was really pretty. What a gorgeous view you have! Question: Why are so many of the pools in Florida closed in?

An acquaintance is selling his home in North Port, FL. It is absolutely perfect for us and at the perfect price point! Too bad Florida is not on my radar.

Cheers to all!

Does the Painkiller at the Soggy Dollar taste slightly different from the ones in other places?

I just found this:

THE STORY OF THE PAINKILLER

It all started at the Soggy Dollar Bar on the island of Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands. There, Daphne Henderson created the first Painkiller and served them to the mostly boating crowd that came to White Bay. These same patrons would spread the word - making the Painkiller famous across the Caribbean.

One day Charles Tobias, founder of Pusser's Rum paid a visit to the Soggy Dollar. He'd heard of the now famous Painkiller. And he was curious about its ingredients. He made fast friends with Daphne Henderson. But try as he might she wouldn't divulge the ingredients to him!

Not to be deterred, Tobias pirated a Painkiller to his boat. Back at his home on Tortola, he began the trial-and-error process to uncover the ingredients and proportions. In the end he discovered it worked out to a 4-1-1-1 ratio of Pusser's Rum, pineapple juice, orange juice and cream of coconut. Though his version is reputed to be discernibly different from the Soggy Dollar's Painkiller - these ingredients and proportions are widely accepted as "the" way to make a Painkiller drink.

We just arrived in Tortola. Our last full day on the ship.

We had a good day visiting 2 classic BVI bars yesterday with our friends: Foxys and Soggy Dollar. Soggy Dollar is right on the beach and everyone walks around barefoot. As in March we liked it better than Foxys where getting service is a challenge. Our travels ended up including a fellow from Ocala, Florida who travels around several times a year to "call" square dances. Nice guy! The BBQ on deck last night was really good. I ate so much less than the others in our group but still felt like I ate more than I needed to. We did drink several Painkillers yesterday which are a highly caloric drink but it is what one has in BVI. Who knows what the damage to my weight will be!

Today we will probably do what we did yesterday - have an early lunch, then go onshore to poke around in shops and stop at the most famous bar for painkillers: Pussers. See below for how you order a painkillers there (each number higher means more rum). The shops in the landing are nicer than some on the other islands so worth going through.

Tomorrow we disembark in San Juan, then spend 3 days at a resort outside of the city.

Have a theoretical Thursday!

I am missing my water aerobics. But they didn't have it Monday because of the cold and it apparently was also cancelled yesterday because the instructor has the flu. We have been walking 45 minutes or so on the upper deck every morning but that barely covers what we would usually do at home. But it's more than a lot of people on the ship do!
