I attended the information session at Jewish Hospital for the Jewish Hospital Weight Management Center (JHWMC). The session was very informative. Dr. Fegelman gave a presentation with slides and answered all questions the attendees had. Susan from the JHWMC completed the information session by talking with us about insurance and the JHWMC process.

I had my medical evaluation at JHWMC today. I received a prescription to have an abdominal ultrasound.

I had my abdominal ultrasound today. I have gallstones.

I had my appointment with Dr. Fegelman today. He will remove my gallstone during the surgery. Since he is in my insurance network, he doesn't see any difficulty receiving approval.

I have received my surgery date and its 12/27/04. I'm still not nervous. If anything......I'm excited !!!!

Wow, its been almost a year since I've posted here. Well, I will try to keep this short. When I went in on 12/27/04 to have my Lap Band surgery, my doctor removed my gallbladder because it was very diseased and a stone was still in my bile duct and Dr. Fegelman did not want to continue the surgery because a specialist had to remove the stone via endoscopy and he did not want to possibly inpede the specialist's attempt to remove it. Well the first specialist was a dud (long story) but the second specialist was superb and was able to remove the stone with no issue in February 2005. Fast forward.....I've changed insurance and my insurance is now Anthem. They consider the Lap Band surgery to be experimental surgery, so now I am going to have Open RNY. I'm very nervous about this. I studied RNY for over a year, not knowing that the surgeon who was going to perform the surgery also did the Lap Band until I attended the information session. That led to about six months of researching the Lap Band. Now I've been researching the RNY again.

I met with Dr. Fegelman's surgical partner today, Dr. Korelitz answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns. He and Dr. Fegelman will both be performing the surgery together. He said that all of my paperwork is still in order from 12/27/04 so he's going to submit it to Anthem. Now we wait. I'll update as soon as I hear from the surgeon's office.

Hard to believe that its been two years exactly since I've updated my page.  This has been a long tiresome journey but I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.  My surgery has been approved and scheduled for March 2, 2009 @ 8:00 a.m.
