follow up sleep study today

Had my follow up sleep study today. Another bump... They said that Dr. Chaban only reads the sleep studies once a week and it is on Wednesday's (which is today).. I was doing a day time hour sleep study since I work nights. They wanted me to sleep during my normal hours of sleep.. They explained that they need at least six hours of sleep study to get a "complete" test. They were nice enough to wake me after the six hours so we could end the test. This allowed Dr. Chaban to be able to read the study TODAY.. I was so releived that he was willing to stick around for my study to be complete so he could read the results.. 3 down, 0 to go
Just waiting on the results to be faxed over to Diane to be submitted for final approval with surgeon.

Met with Dr. Trobulsi who reviewed my stress test and said that everything is normal and he is clearing me to proceed with surgery.. 2 down, 1 to go.

Went for stress test with Dr. Hill (pcp) who was informed that my results HAD to be read by a cardiologists.. 10 days and counting, how can I possibly manage to get all these results in by then??
Dr. Hill must have pulled some strings and I now have a follow up with Dr. Trobulsi to go over the results of stress test with me.

P.A.T. (pre admission testing) DAY
Today started off with 9 vials of blood being drawn.. Yes "9" tubes.
Things started off smoothly. Had blood drawn, had EKG, had pulminary function test done all before 12noon. Now the next step was a readiness class that involved other WLS patients where the rules of eating and importance of eating slowly and waiting 1/2 hour after you stop fluids before eating, waiting 1 hr after eating before starting fluids again were giving and stressed.. I met six other surgery candidates that were all having surgery within a month of the time I am scheduled. They all seem to be as ready as I am. We exchanged email addresses and I hope to keep in contact with each of them during our journeys!
Hit a few bumps in the road at PAT.. Three to be exact.. 1)They said my EKG as abnormal and I would need a stress test. 2)They said due to my history with sleep apnea, they wanted me retested to be sure my settings are correct before going in for surgery. 3)due to edema in my lungs, they wanted a doppler preformed to check circulation before getting clearance.
**UGH - all these to be performed and results back to surgeon before Wed 8/10/05.
They sent me over to the hospital after PAT to get the doppler done and out of the way since they had an opening.. GREAT news. All was fine and I was cleared.. 1 down, 2 to go..
Called Sleep lab to schedule sleep study. Was informed that they could do the sleep study, but could not promise that the results would be back in before the 10th deadline.. What to do?? I will try to call other sleep labs to see if I can get in sooner.
Called Dr. Hill to set up a stress test ~ scheduled 7/29/05

WOW ~ only a month away.. So many things to do between now and then.

I cannot believe I got the call today saying that I have been approved for the ROUX-EN-Y Gastric Bypass by Medical Mutual!!
As relieved as I am that it only took me two weeks after submissions to get approval, my heart goes out to those who have been waiting years to get the insurance companies to approve the procedure for them.

Did not hear back from Dr. Hill’s office so I went there to check on paperwork. Dr. Hill’s letter was complete (and dated) 6/3/05. They did not have any copies ready to go. After discussing with them what I needed, they copied my file, including weight history. It was more than 30 pages, so they would not fax. I contacted Diane via email to see if I can drop off the information Friday morning. She said she will be in, but she is on vacation next week..
The psych eval should be faxed on Monday and then everything will have to wait till Diane returns from vacation..
Oh well, I will just keep plugging away..
