OK, so, I'm a RNYer (Class of 2002) who reached goal.
But now, at 5.5 years post-op, I'm sporting 40 pounds of regain.
It's no mystery how it happened: chocolate addiction, grazing on junk foods that don't fill the pouch, grazing in general, & lack of exercise eventually created a "Perfect Storm" of high-calorie intake combined with little or no movement. Guess how that's workin' for me.
So now, I'm carrying enough excess weight that my knees are giving out ~ swollen, stiff, barkin' when I walk, barkin' when I sit, barkin' when I'm trying to sleep. This has my attention. Thank you, knees, for drawing the line when I couldn't be bothered.
Back to basics. It's no mystery how to tackle this problem. Protein shakes, protein-first meals, avoid chocolate & similar junky "slide" foods (all high in calories and low in density), quit grazing, and back to the gym.
My goal is to return to the lifestyle I embraced as a stabilized post-op. When my obesity was "in remission," not because of a number on the scale, but because I was eating right and exercising.
So, this is already Day Six. My knees are functional enough for exercise (thankfully). Food's a struggle, but I am taking it one day at a time.
I'll pop in from time to time to report my progress.
