I went to my appointment with Kevin today. The g-tube is infected. He said its a mild infection. I told him I would hate to see someone with bad one! Call me what you want but it hurts!!! Its been burning like crazy when I move around & has green discharge. The pharmacy said they couldn't fill the presription because they had a problem with it & had to contact the surgeron's office. Now that's finally strighten out but now they have to order the meds & won't have it until tomorrow. I can't use the pain meds I have since I have an allergy to the codine now. But also, I have to return to work tomorrow & can't be doped up. Work will be diffcult with this pain. On top of everything else, I had to take my dog to the vet this morning because she's sick. I have to go pick her up now. They don't know what's wrong with her yet, have to wait for test results tomorrow. When it rains, it pours!

I've been having a few rough days & I was doing so good. I've been having unusual G-tube pain when I move around, sometimes when sitting. This also turned into a sharp burning pain. Its taped down well. Also, I've had more discharge, greenish. No fever. I always use the neosporin everday when I change the bandage. I thought maybe its just because the skin is trying to heal around the tube, but it really hurts this morning. The last few days I've also had bad headaches but I think they are getting better, they may be hormonal. I took Tyn, it helped a little. I called the office yesterday to try to get in to see Kevin in Jax today but all they did was have the other doctor call me & tell me to anchor it how its comfortable (duh); try not using it for a few & drain it more often. Otherwise, I don't have a way to see anyone & I start work Thursday.

HUG FOR YOU!

We saw the movie "Children of God" yesterday. It was really nice to get out of the house even though I felt a little weak & tired. The movie was very interesting but not the one I should have went to see right now. I would have been much better off with a comedy. COG had lots of dark & destruction thruout. Still glad we went.
Today we took the grandbabies to the park, then to Sonic for lunch & ice cream, I had ice water & ate lunch when I got home. We all had a great time!
This week (up thru Wed.) I'll be trying really hard to get some stuff done around the house to prepare for starting work again. I've just had a bad headache today & just chewed 2 Tyn. for the first time, hope it helps.

Today is my sister Tina's birthday, ~~~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIS ~~~

Mike & I are going to the movies today, I'm so glad. I need to get out of the house & feel a little more normal again. I did have my 7 yr granddaughter after school for 3 days, she helped keep me company, she's so sweet! I just really love being around my grandkids & miss them since I've had no time at all with them in the past month. On Thursday I did a little too much around the house, it really wasn't much normally. That was a mistake! I also accidental yanked on the loop of my G-tube...Ouch! Its been sore but ok.
I've heard from my doctor & will be returning to work on Thursday, 01/25 & 01/26 for half days & then on Monday, 01/29 full time. I'm looking forward to going back to work just to get back to normal. Otherwise, I would totally happy being a housewife forever, just dreaming....LOL. This is the worst time of the month I could be going back (for my sake) since we're swamped at this time every month but it just worked out this way. They'll be needing my help. Hopefully my strenth holds out. I'm sure I'll be very very tired but I'll be ok.

Hi Ya'll !
I'm feeling good & still working on getting fluid & protein in. Its gotten a little easier to drink a little more at a time. I still feel thristy all the time!!! I bought 2 Isopures a while back at the Vitamin Shoppe & have been working every day to drink at least a little bit of them a day. The taste is not great for me but I need the protein. I think I will get use to them a little more as time goes by since I have to get some form of protein drink going for me & can't have any of the Adkins or Slim Fast type with the milk. I also bought some Nectar Car.Cooler & mixed it. I think Nactar is great but I just can't drink the CC because of the coconut taste to it, I hate cocunut. All the foods I'm eating such as thinned Oatmeal; Sugar free chocolate & banana pudding (made from the box); Carb Control Yogart; Cream of Chicken soup have all been put in the blender, had Unjury unflavored  protein power added & have been licquified. I then put them in 4 oz cups & fill to about 3 1/2 ozs. They do settle a little since they have air in them. Of course, your still getting very little protein overall in each oz but every little bit helps! If you add too much protein then the taste isn't good. I've been looking around at all the labels of what I have in the house & it appears that the stage 1 baby food meats have the most protein for just a 2 1/2 oz jar more than anything else. So I warm up at least one a day for one of my meals & add plenty of salt, not too bad.

Wow, I can't believe time is going by so fast!  Time flys........

I know everyone is different but am I a whimp? I know a lot of you went back to work at 2 wks, I don't know how ya'll did it. I'm set to go back at 3 wks, 2 days part time & then full time after that. I thank God I have this time. I'm acually doing great, very little pain, no pain meds & I'm sleeping much better thru the night. My main problem now seems to be feeling really weak at times & no energy. I have been walking more; doing a few more things around the house to build my strenth, trying to get more protein in, its hard since I can't drink any of the milk based protein drinks. I've been trying to get them in the G-tube more often. The first week I had the severe diareea from the milk protein shakes which really slowed me down & dehidrated me. The first & more in the second week I was dealing with the allergy reaction to the codine with the itching & rash. That really distraced me from getting in the proper water & protein. I wonder if any of you feel really weak going back to work & how  ya'll manage at work with the G-tube. Did you drain & flush it at work or just wait till you got home? What type of meals did you have for breakfast & lunch at work? I just need some ideas to prepare. Thank Everyone!!!

01/16/07 (13 days post Op) Part 2.......

Jan 15, 2007

I went to see my allergist yesterday since the itching has made me more than miserable. He believes its more than likely a reaction to the codine in my pain meds. He put me on Prednisolone meds, a steroid. I took it last night & this morning. I already feel much better & just a little itching. I think the itching was already slowing down on its own last night since I stopped the pain meds on Sat 2AM. He also talked to me about my thryoid meds. They should always be taken alone, not with other meds or food. He said my mouth was way too dry & I need more fluids.
Mike is back to work. I am working hard this week on getting my routine down better. First thing I did this morning was crush the thryiod meds, drain & put thryoid meds in g-tube (feeding), flush. Then I got my drinking water refreshed. Took a walk, made a few phone calls. Ate 3 ozs oatmeal with protein added.  Chewed my morning meds & vitamins. Did a few small things around the house, took another walk. 1 oz protein drink in tube. Trying hard to work on getting more water & protein, its hard sometimes.
Yesterday I labeled one set of these little med ziplocks Mike got from CVS as, Early AM; AM; PM; Late PM. I put it in my purse so I'll always have what I need & hopefully won't skip any vitamins, etc.

Hunger............I know that different people feel differently right after surgery about food. Some can't stand the thought or smell of it; most feel head hunger; some more. Since the 3rd day out of the hospital I have felt head hunger but I have also felt some real hunger. Everything I eat tastes wonderful (don't worry, I'm sticking to what I'm allowed). Everything I smell I wish I could taste. I was hoping I wouldn't & its so early. I haven't had any stomach growling though.
I know this is probaly normal but I don't feel like the weight loss I've had so far means anything. I think I'll feeling a little down; bored & stir crazy. Hey, I think this means I'm feeling better! The itching is still totally driving me crazy. I have swore off the pain meds all together (except for Tyno) as of Sat. 01/13 to see if it helps any. I told my husband Mike that he's GOT to get me out of this house tomorrow please !!!     —

01/13/07 (10 Days Post Op) -13 Lbs (Since 1 wk pre-op)

Jan 13, 2007

Its amazing that I feel so much better now compared to when I first came home. All the writing I've done shows that. Its like the difference beween night & day.  I'm still taking pain meds at night & at first morning (4 or 5AM) but don't usually need any during the day. I may be off them altogether very soon.
I'm looking into diet software. I was looking at freeware but not sure I'm finding what I need. I've heard a lot of people like FitDay. According to the website, It has a free online or u can order the progam with more features for $29.99.

I went to my 1 wk post op appointment on Wed 01/10. Everything went well. I've lost 13 lbs since my 1 wk pre op visit (in 2 wks). He removed a little of the saline in the g tube & it does feel a little better. I had the staples removed. Kevin is having me take benadril for the rash I now have on all over the top of my back where it started, all over my belly & rearend. He said I'm allergy to something from the surgery or after, possibly the glue from the tape or meds. The itching has been driving me crazy for days. I am offically Lactose intolerate, although maybe this will change later? Good news is I haven't had any of the diarrhea since Monday!!!! Ever since I stopped drinking the protein shakes. Kevin recommened only whey protein & products without lactose, Also Isopure. I can't have soy products because of my thoride meds. It figures with me being a milk lover I would get this problem. I think I had a small touch of it even before the surgery. But we do have the lactose free milk which is good. But what's weird is I'm still eating my cottage cheese for lunch with no problem, go figure. He also said my fever is normal as long as it does't go to 101.
Oh, did I mention thirst! I'm always thirsty !!!
