I am 57 years old, 5'10" and 273 pounds. I have completed all the pre-op requirements that my surgery center had set for me. The documentation has been sent to my insurance provider and I'm now waiting for approval. I'm concerned about being denied because I'm one of those healthy fat people - who ever thought that would be a negative? I have basically none of the major co-morbidities. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, but mild not severe. I have boarderlline fasting blood sugar and boarderline blood pressure, neither require medication to control at this time. I have had two knee surgeries and one back surgery. I had my thyroid ablated in 2002 and levels are maintained with daily medication. I am hopeful that because my BMI is literally a few pounds from 40 and because of my age and history of obesity that the insurance will approve my request for RNY.

UPDATE: I called the insurance company yesterday March 6, 2018 to make sure they received the paperwork from my surgeon's office. They received it. And I've been APPROVED! I'm so excited and relieved! Now the next step and start scheduling. OMG, this is happening!!
