Missing In Action

Jan 04, 2019

Hey OH Fam!

I know, I know. I fell off the face of the earth but now I'm back. It has been a crazy two months since my last post. So let's start with the good news - I am down 59 lbs since my surgery on 9/26.

For a moment there I was a little upset because I could not get pass 247lbs for several weeks. There was a lot going on in my life at the time but this too shall pass.

I've started exercising but have not got a true handle on what is too much until it is too late. I need to tell myself that this is a marathon not a sprint.

I'm back.......OB VSG

Nov 06, 2018

Okay, it has been a minute since I have been on here. My weight update is that I am at 252.7 as of Sunday, November 4th. I have been trying not to weight myself everyday because I have been battling with IBS during this puree period. I win some battles and it wins some but I plan on winning the war on IBS.

During my time away I discovered the next best thing since sliced bread (at least for a weight loss patient). I understand why toddlers love this thing so much and never want to let it go. Try taking it from them and they will have a holy fit. I discovered the Sippy Cup. It does not allow excess air in when your drinking and it increases the amount to liquid you can take in.

I discovered this natural wonder when I was preparing my costume for Halloween, I was going as a Rugrat. Onsie, pacifer, sippy cup and all. I tried it the day before and now take it everywhere with me, including work. It only cost me a $1.00 and I have gotten my money worth and then some. I have put back on the onsie or the pacifer but I have used the heck out of that sippy cup!!!!

18 Days Post VSG

Oct 14, 2018

Okay OH peps.  I am now down to 267 lbs; that is a lost of 36 lbs.

A few pointers for anyone preparing for the VSG surgery that they do not tell you at the hospital or your doctor's office.

  1. Get you some chewable GasX. You will be taking more than the recommended about on the box but it will help along with walking.
  2. Popicles will be your best friend.
  3. If you have IBS, pay close attention to your body because the excess gas will irriate your IBS and you will not be able to get as much fluid and protein in your body.
    1. A home remedy without taking medication is using a heating pad on you abdominal area.
  4. Crushing you medicines are horrible. Add your crushed pills in with a little of your protein shakes to hide the taste or act like a baby and refuse to take it (I did that in the beginning).
  5. You will need to easy into laying on your left side. It will hurt on the initial attempt.
  6. Relax as much as you can during your recovery.

4 Days Post Op

Sep 30, 2018

Okay. So the belching has been the highlight of this event. I have been walking and touring my house in the middle of the night and decided today that we might want to look further into this transparent nightstalker. What I found out is that Gas X and other products like it (simethicone) gathers the family together to make one bubble of joy so that it can be propelled from your body. So not fun. Drinking warm water with a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar helps to dissolve the little invaders. I'm going to miss the routine of taking my medicine then 3 hours later burping stars and stripes. You know I'm just kidding.

2 Days After VSG Surgery

Sep 28, 2018

Okay. It works. I'm not hungry like before the surgery which I knew that was going to happen. I was expecting the gas but it is horrible. I am taking it slow and walking a lot. I decided to put on my gear fit to track my steps and I am walking a trail through my house.

I do not plan on weighting until after my first doctor visit next week. I am loving the beef broth so far.

The day before VSG and all through the house.....

Sep 25, 2018

....the patient was awaiting the joy of drinking more than just water and protein shakes. Bring on the noise. Bring on the puree meals! I did not realize that a person could look forward to puree food.

Okay at last weigh in I had lost 16lbs and going. I would like it to be 20lbs by tomorrow because I like round numbers; sue me. I know my liver and stomach has been experiencing strinkage (no offense to the men), because I am not able to drink down my shakes in one setting nor water.

So just to let you know the Do's and Don'ts  of liquid protein dieting.

  1. Do not go grocery shopping because you will not like the monster you will turn into.
  2. Do drink a lot of H2O because you will not like the monster you will turn into.
  3. Do apologize to your colleagues, friends, and family before you start because they will not like the monster you will turn into.

4 Days to VSG Surgery

Sep 22, 2018

Ok OH Fam,

I am now down 13lbs and doing good on this protein shake and water diet but I cannot wait until my surgery so that I will not be so hungry while doing this. I will have two more weeks post op of the liquid diet but I can added other things like popiscles, juices, flat cola (not going to happen).

So I looked at some pureed meal options with my hubby and we did find that Hormel has some good choices. We are going to purchase a few of them so that I can have meals for lunch and breakfast once I am given the all clear by my doctor. I am looking forward to more solid food but not sure how I feel about the pureed options.

I have learned a new phrase, "You are so disrespectful". I am just joking but I have told a lot a people that including my co-workers and family about this liquid diet and them eating around me.

Everyone have a good night.

7 Days until VSG.....

Sep 19, 2018

Tick, tock, tick, tock. I am still doing the liquid diet but I am here to tell you there is no easy way to get through this part but prayer, sleep and restraint. I have only had one melt down so far but the good part my husband and son was not at home when I was cursing them from one end to the other (I did apologize after they came home even though they had no idea I did it ). The meltdown did not involve crying or eating everything that was not nailed down. I have been diligent with this diet but it is not fun and not easy no matter what anyone tells you. If your going through this we can support each other with a moment of silence.

The purpose of the liquid protein diet is to shrink your liver and it works quite well. Expect to be hungry unless your Ketons like you and become use to this manner of eating (I believe mine hate me to the fullest). On a bright side I have lost 9lbs since Friday, September 14th. If you work around others and live with anyone, please apologize in advance for your behavior because you will be HANGRY, HANGRY, HANGRY, fatigue, and HANGRY!

9 Days to Surgery

Sep 17, 2018

It is getting closer and closer. I am anxiety but looking forward to it. Right now my challenge is getting through the liquid diet. We have been told that after 3 days I should be okay and that after 5-6 days I should be better but I do not know. I tried slowly getting prepared by substituting a protein shake for breakfast last Monday then substituting a protein shake for breakfast and lunch until Saturday when I went straight protein shakes and water going forward. Do anyone have any suggests on how long will this hangryness last and what I can do to suppress it???
