Well Well.....Thought I'd visit your site and see what your posting was.... I hate to dispute your report but you are way to modest.... Your appearance has changed dramatically! 40 lbs in less than 2 months....Lets see, If 5 lbs of body fat resembles an official NFL Football, and you have lost 8 of them, Hmmmmmm thats pretty significant. not only mentally but absolutely physically. 8 footballs worth of body mass GONE. And the biggest thing TO ME, is the fact that you no longer need your chain and ball (portable oxygen system)to survive. Your body has taken control of your oxygen needs and is winning! This brings tears to my eyes Mom. I was Sooooooo worried I was gonna lose you so prematurly...... This effort you are making is this best present I have ever gotten from you. For those of you reading this, I am her Baby, the youngest. So I assure you she has completely spoiled me rotten most of my life with gifts, love, and compassion..... but this life extension she has given herself is the best gift I ever had. TIME, The thought of having you with us for so many more years, Keep it up Sweetie pie, I LOVE YOU MOM, I couldn't be any prouder of you. See you soon, with warmest regards. Alan

07-24-02.....I had my next visit with my doctor. He is so wonderful. I am now allowed to eat regular food a little at a time until I see how it goes. Well, I tried that several times and I get a severe pain in my stomach that almost takes my breath away. I remember not to eat that food again that is for sure. There have been several types of regular food that I can eat without this pain, but I can always eat the baby food without the pain so it is still looking pretty good to me. My doctor told me I could continue to eat the baby food if I wanted to so I am still eating more baby food than regular food. The doctor said I was doing great. I have lost 40 pounds altogether so far. He said that he thinks between 10 to 15 pounds a month is great. So I won't be too anxious if I don't lose a glob at a time. I think I lost 35 pounds off my face and neck and the other five evenly off my body. Ha Ha One other thing that I want to share. I was always too hot for most of my life. Had to have fans and air conditioners on even in the winter. I would freeze everyone out. Now the tables have turned. I am cold most all the time. My hands and my feet and my nose is always like ice. The doctor said that my metabolish was changing dramatically and that I might always have this problem. However, to lose the weight I don't mind, I can always put on my coat. Ha Ha I haven't started exercising yet as my Penne' hangs down so far it is hard for me to walk without my cane. So I hope when I have lost some more, that it won't affect me so much. I can go swimming now and belong to a health club, so will start that soon. Maybe exercise will warm me up. I have a wonderful support team and wonderful family and friends who are very loving and supportive. I thank God for my success and for the support that I have every day. I am off all my meds and I don't have to wear my oxygen during the day anymore. (I used to use 3 to 4 liters all the time.) I still use it at night but only 1.5 liters. This surgery saved my life and I am so happy that I went ahead with it. If you are thinking of going with the surgery, make two lists.... one that has all the reasons for it and one for all the reasons not to have it. I'll bet if you are honest, your list with reasons to have it will be the biggest of the two lists. I wish you all success and happiness on each of your journeys. I visit my doctor again next month and will do another update at that time. With love and best wishes, Marilyn

Hey there good looking! You have almost completely gotten rid of your supplemental oxygen need! just 1.5 LPM (liters per min) while you sleep, and as I predicted, your energy levels are way up. your endurance is improving daily!Soon, Very soon you won't need any more oxygen! At All. Ever! Very few people that go on to home oxygen use ever, ever, ever get off of it. I always knew you could do it! You are an insperation to us all! You look fantastic! your face and shoulders are a completely different scale (size). I know you are probably feeling aches and pains you have'nt felt in a long time. these are just muscels you have'nt used in a long time. It will pass soon as they get their needed exercise. and begin to burn even more calories. which will shrink you even faster. It must feel weird not having to drag your portable oxygen system around with you. and not hearing the pst, pst, pst every time you take a breath. I have been telling all of my patients about you and they are impressed as well. You have awaken something inside me as well, something I have'nt felt in a long time....a possibility of maybe I could do somethings that I need to do I my life. To improve it, and help me find a vigor that I have'nt felt in a long time. I think we all do destructive things that we know better than to do, but some how we get into a denile that perhaps it isn't so bad... but when we look aroud us at others that are living life to it's fullest we relize that it is nerotic to do these things but we lose our way in our ability to do anything about it. You have awaken this need in me to do some deep looking into my life. To do something positive for ME. To improve myself and my life. and to creat a positive sense around me and my family, my friends. to inspire others.....You are my hero.... I love you with all my heart. Press on, dear mother, press on.....We all need you to do this for us as well.....someone once said "Dare to fail to succeed"....You are success! You are in my thoughts and prayers almost constantly. Love Alan

Mom, Well Well....Down to 1.5 LPM on your supplemental oxygen requirements when at rest and 2 lpm when exerting yourself has been confirmed by your very competent Pulmonoligist, Dr. Holly Strong! My personal faveroite! FANTASTIC! You are improveing daily! and shrinking! I LOVE IT! I can not express the happiness I feel when I she you now. It certianly elates me to see your health improve so rapidly! Dr. Holly said you really don't need the oxygen any more, We shall wean you off slowly and smoothly. I am Sooooo excited for you. I haven't had the pleasure of weaning very many people off oxygen use at home. Out of 250-300 home oxygen patients probably around 5-6 came off their oxgen. You are certianly in a small club. The Ex-Oxygen needers! Beckey sends her love , and will return tonite. Hope to see you tomarrow. Oceans of Love....Alan

Mom, I am just beaming with pride. I have seen you out and about town now several times. Your rapid weight loss shows, dramatically. You look fantastic! Your ability to help others shines through, even during your own challenges. I knew this life change would take a complete commitment. I know no-one else that has the kind of commitment ability as you do. To take charge and get the job done right, the first time. You did something very special for me recently and I want to thank you again for it....always thinking of others....You have been such a good example for me. For everyone...Keep up the great work, see you soon! XXXX OOOO Respectfully yours, Love Alan
