Unity Hospital (COE)

"Had an overall good experience. Couple of weird things happened. One, they kept taking my blood sugar readings. I was out of it the first day of surgery, so didn't say anything. Second day I asked why they were doing it, nurse said because I have diabetes...I don't have diabetes. She called my surgeon right away and apologized saying that they had thought I did. Second thing that happened was on my first night there, lab person came in to draw blood for cross and match for blood I was to be given. Again, I was out of it, so I just gave her my arm for blood drawn. I had said that I didn't lose that much blood, but didn't question it further. When my nurse for the night came in, I asked why I was going to get blood. She said that it was a mistake on my chart. I told her they drew blood and she apologized. Other than that, very good nurses and staff, very willing to help with pain management."

Jeffrey Baker

"Very caring, genuinely concerned with you and your understanding of the surgery. Said that he gives out his pager number to all his patients so that after surgery you can always contact him. Doesn't want his patients to be worried about something going on...to get the answer from him or his nursing staff right away. He is rather "new" to gastric bypass surgery from what I've heard, but not to "surgery". His father, Dr Daniel Baker, has been doing GBS for quite some time, so he has had the best teacher. Only one death in their practice in somthing like 7 years. Very important to him for you to lose your pre-surgery weight (nurse tells you how much on your 1:1) He wants you to take this surgery seriously and be in the best shape you can before hand. Wonderful after care program that I have already seen first hand, pre-op."
