first I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has left such wonderful messages!!! Now I want to give an update.. This will get long.. I am sorry.. Thank you if you stay through this whole message! I really need the support and thoughts right now. I called my insurance company and was wondering how the approval was going. The first lady I talked to said she overheard her supervisor talking about my paperwork that had just come back. But she didn't know the status and asked if I would like her to call me back. I said yes and said I would be out most of the day, but she could leave a message on my voice mail. I got back to my house about 2 hours later and she left a message saying " after receiving more of your information, Gastric By-pass Surgery is not covered in your plan". Okay that REALLY confused me. Why would it not be covered after getting more information showing I needed the surgery??? So I called the company up. And asked.. She says it states in my plan that Surgical Options for weight loss are not covered under my plan. I asked how it was when I called back before March (my info session) why it was covered then. She said I must have misunderstood the person.. I said, NO I have the name of who I talked to and why exactly I needed. She asked and who was that? So I went and logged on to my computer and brought up the file and read it back to her. She kept insisting that I was wrong.. I kept insisting that no, that is what I was told.. Finally I said.. if it wasn't covered under my plan then why when Dr Maguire's office sent the paperwork, at the end of March, they didn't immediately deny it. And why then was I required to send in more paperwork and have a psych consult? IF it wasn't covered. Then she changed her story alittle and started to blame it on Future Health (which is the company that they send it out to that decides if it's medically necessary, they have doctors and nurses doing the pre-approval's). She said they are the ones who came back with it not being covered on my plan. I said, but are they my insurance?? I thought I had Beech Street. That's who I have a card for. She said No.. you have UMR. I was very confused at that point.. I guess... UMR borrows plans from other insurance companies to get networks. I have the Beech Street plan of doctors. But I have UMR. I asked my husband and he was flabbergasted. Wondering why people told him that he had the Beech Street Plan. He is supposed to be talking to the HR people at his work to find out more information. Anyways, So I called Dr Maguire's office and Kelly wasn't in, But Kim was. So I told her I had to give up my date, and I was going to appeal their decision, but it takes 60 days, so I would have to reschedule my surgery. She was very understanding. I asked her about the appeal process and she said they don't really deal with that. I said.. Okay... I am not sure where to begin, She said she would send me someone else's letter of appeal with their personal info whited out. (HOW NICE!) Well.. Yesterday I got a call from Future Health. She was confused on why I was denied. This lady is much nicer then the first one I talked to.. She asked me alot of questions about the BPD, she had never heard of it. So I gave her a description of the surgery. I couldn't get to my computer, so I couldn't give her a great explanation, but being a nurse she understood. Then she wanted to know about Dr M since they have never heard of him. So I gave all of his credits. Then she asked if I would have the RNY. I said, I would to be able to lose the weight, but I would prefer the BPD. She is supposed to be getting back to me today about my confusion. I had a huge breakdown yesterday. I wanted to give up.. I am very tired of fighting my weight. I know alot of you have gone through alot more.. But yesterday I just couldn't handle it anymore. I am thinking if they deny the BPD but approve the RNY I will appeal, has that ever been done?? Maybe even be out of pocket. It will take until probably the end of the year to save up that much, but I really would rather have the BPD. I guess since I don't know anyone that has had the RYN.
