Ruthie: Don't even try to stay with your CPap all night the first couple of nights. Try for an hour. Then the next night try to two hrs, etc. If you're feeling stuffy, call your doctor and ask about a nasal spray you might use just before you go to bed. Check to see if you have ramping on your machine. If you do, then it will help ease you into the full force of air. The machine is usually set by the technician to ramp up over a 30-45 minute time period. It depends on your end setting. I have use a Pap for 3 years and can't do without it now. I sleep and rest when I use it. I feel sooooo much better after a night with it. Hopefully after your surgery you won't need it any more. If you keep on having problems, call your doctor and talk to him/her.

Hi Ruth, I just got my CPAP machine a month and a half ago. It does get easier. It took me about a full week to get used to it. My machine has what is called a "ramp" on it. They programed it to start off real low and go up slowly after 45 minutes. This makes it much better. See if yours does that. The place where I got the machine registered it that way. My pressure is on 17, which is like a huge wind tunnel. Take care, Melanie
