"My first impression was very good. He was very upbeat and confident. I've went to his support Group now and I still like what I see and hear. There really wasn't anything I didn't like. He doesn't do Laproscopic RNY and I was hoping for it, but I will take what I can get. I like his staff and office. They were almost as excited as I was. It was really great to have people who know how I feel and who helped me feel better. I must say though, they didn't help in getting insurance approved, they turned in the first appeal late and backed everything up and then my husband took over and got it done right when they gave up.
Dr. Otteman was great before, during and after surgery and so was Becky his assistant. I saw him 1 week after surgery to have the staples taken out, but I don't see him again for another month. I think on the question of which is better the surgical competence or bedside manner... I would have to say both. He did my surgery beatifully and he had a good bedside manner while I was in the hospital.
The only problem I had/have with his office is the lady that does the insurance approvals. She was aweful and almost made me not want to have the surgery the way she dealt with things, but everyone else is wonderful. Once I took matters into my own hands, it worked out alot better.
Dr. Otteman is very into aftercare and you can call the office anytime with questions.
I've dealt with the Dr. now a few times, I really like his bedside manner. His office is the greatest. They are always happy for you and they make you feel like you are welcome. The Dr. makes sure you have no questions and is very detailed in what he tells you. I think out of all the choices of doctos in Coloraod, Dr. Otteman is the BEST choice.
