Welcome home, Mary! I see your smiling face on AMOS all the time, but only just found out you live in Alabama too! I live in Pelham (just a couple of miles from where you had your surgery). I had lap RNY with Dr. Sherer 10 months ago. My sister had it 5 months later. Now my mom who lives in Montgomery (like you) hopes to have surgery too. (We're waiting on her cardiologist to give her clearance). I'm glad that you had an uneventful journey to the "losing" side. It's a great place to be! E-mail me any time if I can help you in this process.

July 8th, 2002 well hello my Amos family. I am 5 days post op and I feel good! I checked into the hospital on the 3rd of July and my surgery was scheduled for 9:00AM but for some reason and I am not sure why it was delayed until 2:30pm. Something happened to Dr. Christopher’s office. I came out of surgery to the post operating room about 4:30pm. I keep hearing the nurses telling me how sweet I was. I do not know how sweet I was or why they told me this, lol. I was moved to my private room where my wonderful husband and father-in-law awaited for me. The first day was very fuzzy. I know the nurses kept fussing over me giving me my blood thinner and many shots. Hardly any rest for the weary. My stomach was 3 times its normal size. My breasts were sticking to my skin on my tummy and my tummy was sticking to my upper thighs. This felt very weird I felt like a balloon fully blown up and some of the air had been let out my skin had this texture, urgh! I am glad to say it is better now. The next day on 4th of July, my independence day, I was able to get up after they removed that damn tube to help me unriate. It was hard to get up but up I got and I went walking. I walked about every 2 hours until I went home. The nurses seemed to be impressed by me getting up and walking. They never suggested I do this but I had gotten plenty advice from folks from AMOS and I knew this was the best thing to do. I was in minimal pain but it did not stop me from walking. Now I am at home going on 3 days and I feel fine. My blood pressure is 137/73 my blood sugars are in manageable ranges and I am riding my stationery bike about 3 times a day. I am eating my liquids and drinking my water at least 38 ounces. I have lost 9 lbs so far. And I am looking forward to continue getting healthy. The reason I had my surgery was for my health and right on the bat my health is already better. I can't ask for more than that. I am grateful to be alive but I do feel guilty especially when I read of others not doing very well or even dying. I pray every day for all of us. I feel so full of life right now. I know this is the most positive thing I have done for myself thus far.

Well hello my fellow AMOS members. I am alive yes I survived and quit well if I do say so myself. I am 2 days post opp at home sitting at my computer and if I have any advice to pass on it would be Walk Walk Walk. As soon as you can, get up and walk. I was given this advice before my surgery and it has made all the difference in the world to me. I'm not saying I was pain free but I was able to manage the pain and still am. Walking helps get you back on your feet faster. I want to take the time out to thank Karen Gates for posting for me when my original angel fell through. I really appreciated that.

Angel Daytha said she posted to the message board, but I never saw it and I'm not sure it went through! Daytha told me yesterday that Mary's surgery went fine, even though they didn't take her for surgery until about 3:00 and she was scheduled for 9:00. Not sure what the hold up was. Mary is doing fine, just a little sore throat. Daytha was going to see Mary today.
