It has been six days since my RNY and I'm doing pretty good. I have to say the LAP is the way to go. Let me back up some and talk about my surgery.
I went to the hospital on Thursday morning and had complete peace about what was going to happen. I knew I was in the best of surgeon's hands, but more importantly I was my heavenly Father's hands. In fact I was so relaxed about it I kept falling asleep (no meds yet) in the holding room waiting to go in.
Once they put me to sleep it felt like just a minute before I was being woken in the recovery room. After I was moved to my room (I do suggest you get a private room. Save the money, it will make it more comfortable for you and your family). My mom and one of my good friends was waiting for me. It was good to see their faces.
The next couple of days in the hospital were really uneventful. I just kept getting better each day. I was released that Synday morning.
Since then I have been focusing on follwing doctors orders. My surgeon wants me to start getting 48 oz of liquid in for now and then build up. He also likes to get his patients on a "mushy" diet in the first week. So, I'm on my second day have getting that kind of food in (grits-if your not from the south you may not know what these are, mush potatoes, creaming soups, etc.)Really I could go without eating anything, I never really feel hungry. I do it because I want to get the nutrients and not let my body shut down thinking it is completely straving.
My mom and I have made some short day trips to get in some walking. My tummy is feeling good and I'm able to lay on my sides now when I sleep.
My biggest challenge has been staying off the scale, so I don't drive myself crazy. I have yet to succeed.
