The Open LAP - RNY procedure is a Godsend. It was so much easier than what I saw my best friend go through. I hit the morphine plunger exactly four times...all to get to sleep. Just remember to walk, and to sleep. You will need both. Also, I waited until after the last injection of anti-inflammatory/pain killer to get in the car and go home. It was the right choice. One final thought...GET A RECLINER for the first week post-op. If you think I'm lying just ask anyone who has done this. Either a recliner or a hospital bed is needed. Rent one. I could not lay down at all...why don't they warn you about that? Maybe it is because after a week in the hospital with the Open RNY you can lay down, but after one day I couldn't and this was also the experience of one other person. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!! 23 days...22 pounds down :) .
