I was in the military and I had to workout every day and strive really hard to be healthier. Then I was injured and I was discharged on a medical discharge after 5 years of service. I was totally heartbroken. I wanted to stay in but they couldn't figure out how to fix me.

So when I got out I went to the VA and they determined I had Chiari Malformation Type 1. It took 2 years but they finally did the brain surgery to decompress my brain in April of this year. Easy to see why I have gained weight since surgery...I had to lay around a while. But I started gaining weight significantly when I was discharged since I was in pain and certainly not as active anymore. I sat at a desk for a job. That didn't help.

My husband was in the Navy with me. We both got out and now my husband is in the Army. He just joined Jan 2009. He recently deployed to the Middle East. I am working with the Army hospital on the Bariatric Pathways program at Madigan Army Med Center. But I just started so I have months of work to go.
