Halloween Goal I'm dropping my 30 day goal to 15 lbs which is still a pretty high amount. This would put me at 230 (made 232)
"Thanksgiving Goal" These are really monthly but holidays make them fun. 220 by December first. (made 221)
For Christmas I'll go ahead and drop my goal down a bit more because again I assume I'll start slowing down more. So that will be 210 by New Years. (made 211)
And of course 199 by Valentine's day.
My next goal, 187 by april 3rd (200 lbs in one year!)
oct 15, 2006 - My story is the same as so many people's stories that I've seen on this site. I have been fat for as long as I remember. I am 5'10" and weigh around 385 which is the heaviest I've ever been. When I was in first grade I was the 'average weight of a 3rd grader'. When I was 13 years old I weighed 190 lbs. By the time I graduated highschool I was 230. At that time I was walking a lot, exercising, and involved in track (discus) which probably kept my weight at a reasonable level. I got pregnant at 19 and went up to 290. After I had my son I wasnt exercising as much because I was 'home bound' with my son, not walking as much, not in track and not working out.
After my son was a year old I went back to college. I spent a lot of time going on various diets. I tried the 'low fat' diet, what a joke. I also did slim fast and several other diets, including jenny craig, nutrasystem and going to a nutritionist. I was at a 'stable' weight of 330. The problem is every time I lost anything I gained it back and a little more. At about 360 lbs I tried the atkins diet. I lost down to 280, this was 5 years ago. I didnt stay on it though and then gained it back and more again. Ive tried atkins again since then and just have a difficult time staying on it. I can usually lose down to 330ish before I hit a wall. So last year I found out I was diabetic, type 2 diabetes. At that time my doctor recommended weight loss surgery. I wish I would have done it at the time. My then boyfriend talked me out of it saying it was too danagerous. I wish I wouldnt have listened to him. My insurance last year was 'doctor recommendation' for the surgery and that's it. So jan 2006 my employer switched insurances. At first they required 1 year following a doctor's recommended diet and exercise program, 5 years history, psych eval and yadda yadda. It's the 1 year thing that's the killer. So okay I started in July when I went to meet with the doctor I'm going to have the procedure done with and get his recommendation and such. The good news is in september my insurance changed their rules from 12 months to 6 months. So counting July I'm currently half way done. I've gone to the doctor every month, he's had me go to a nutritionist and a trainer at the gym.
