4 yr checkup today

Jun 21, 2011

I had my 4 year check up today (a little early) and I know that I need to get back on track.  I want to reconnect with friends my met through the OH board for support and help getting back to where I need to be.  I have let things go by the wayside and I have gained 25 pounds and I need to get to work to get it back off once again.
Hoping that by coming back to the board where I started and being able to get the support I need and also to give support to others that are just starting out or are where I am now.

this is the best thing I have ever done for myself and I need to remember that and start putting myself first once again!

5 Months out!!!

Jan 02, 2008

The day after Christmas I am 5 months out from wls.  I am amazed at how wonderful I feel and how much weight I have lost in such a short amount of time.  I am now down 82.4 pounds and still heading down.  I haven't yet reached a "plateau" but when I do see the same weight or a little gain for two days straight then I know I need to get back to keeping track of everything that I eat and drink.  It usually means that I am not getting all of my liquids in and need to jump right on it.

I have met some many wonderful people from this board and it is great to have many new friends.  I feel blessed to be in this place in my life.  Getting my life back and experiencing things I have never done before.  I look forward to adding more entries to my list of new and fun happenings!!!

Take care and I'll check back in a month.  I still need to add my 5 months pics, a little late taking them this time, but should get them on soon!

4 Months out today

Nov 26, 2007

Four months out today and I am down 74.6 pounds.  This has been an amazing journey so far and I look forward to heading right on down this road!  I am feeling great and able to do so many more things & many things more easily now.
We went home to Ohio for Thanksgiving to see my family.  I hadn't seen my sister since July 5th and it was fun to see her reaction to me.  My neices as well, they are 8, and they were just shocked at first but after that I was just plain ole Aunt Mimi again and we had a blast. I took my girls on the 4-wheeler and had so much fun, went shopping with my mom and sister and had energy to keep right on going.
Thanksgiving was good.  Not hard at all.  I even came back to MN after being with my parents for a week and lost 1.2 pounds.  That was a wonderful surprise.
I would love to be down to 199 by Christmas if I could but if not I am okay with that.  I have lost almost 75 pounds so far and I haven't been able to do that in forever.
Taking one day at a time and following my program is what I am doing right now.  I do much better when I write everything down....food, water, milk, my protein grams...when I stray from doing that my weight loss slows down so I make an effort to do that each and every day and that is what works for me!
Until next month.....Amy

3 months out today

Oct 25, 2007

I can't believe it has been 3 months today since I have had my surgery.  The time has gone by so quickly and sometimes it feels like I have been eating & living my life this way forever, so I think that is a good thing.  I am down 63.4 pounds. I have lost 10 pounds this past month and I am very happy with that.  It is so nice to just see the numbers on the scale keep going down after three months instead of start creeping back up.  I am feeling great.  I also put on a pair of size 18 jeans today what a great feeling that is.  I have gone from a 24/26 to about an 18/20 and to be in an 18....WOW. I think it was back is 1998 I had a 18 on.  I still struggle a bit with wanting to eat,  I just try to make sure I get my daily protein and liquids in. Some days I get there and pass my requirements and some days I don't quite get there.  Overall I am so happy with myself and how far I have come in such a short amount of time.  I have also posted my 3 month photos on my profile as well.
Life is good!!!! Until next time. Amy

2 months out today!!!

Sep 26, 2007

It has be 2 months today since I had my surgery. The time has gone very quickly and as of today I have lost a total of 53.4 pounds.  That is so amazing to me to lose this much weight in such a short amount of time.

I am feeling much better and have more energy.  I am not so tired all the time.  I can run up the stairs without being winded. The pain in my hip is less.  It still hurts some but like Carol (nurse) says it is because I am walking more, taking longer strides and just using muscles that have not been used in a long time!

Life is good!!!!!

I have an appointment with the dietician on October 4 and that will be my official weigh in for surgery, so hopefully a few more pounds will be gone forever once I get there.

I guess the only thing I really need to work harder at is getting the exercise in daily.  It seems to get pushed to the bottom of my list for the day and I need to put it right at number one so I get it done right at the get-go!!!  Otherwise things are going good and I still know this is the best thing I have ever done for myself!

One Month out!!!

Aug 27, 2007

I met with Carol on 8/21 for my one month (just shy of one month) and everything was going great.  I was down 20.1 pounds from surgery day and down 36 pounds from my highest weight.  I can't believe how the weight is coming off.  Still trying to remember to eat and get my liquids in.  It is amazing how food is not such a big deal anymore.  I am so thankful for that.  I am starting to feel more energy.  My hip pain is just about gone which is so nice. I can walk up the stairs and not be in pain. I can carry Rachel so much easier and even able to lift up my 4 year old, Lydia.

Life is good!  I am thankful everyday for the opportunity I was given to have this surgery and start a new healthy life and be able to show my girls how to live a healthy life without food being such an issue!

1 week checkup

Aug 20, 2007

I had my 1 week check up with Dorothy.  She is absolutely the best.  I had lost 3.4 pounds. Dorothy warned me before I got on the scales that I may weigh more than my surgery checkin weight because of the IV fluid I had in the hospital.  I was pleasantly surprised with the number on the scale.

I was able to start on full liquids the following day and follow that plan for 3 days and then starting on Sunday I was able to move to pureed foods.

The first time I ate food I was really nervous, not sure how I would react to actually have food in my mouth for quite a long time. It went fine.  The next hurdle to cross was to drink my milk. I worried that I may be lactose intolerant so I was leary to drink the milk. That went fine too.  It was good to have food to eat again just to feel different texture once again!
Life is good....very good.

My next appointment will be on August 21 @ 330pm with Carol at PNC Burnsville. Much closer to where I live plus Dorothy had no appointments available at all. Hopefully I will be able to get into see her again soon. At least before winter. I am not a winter driver and don't think the drive to St Louis Park would be much fun in our lovely Minnesota winter months.

Until next time........

Haven't posted for awhile

Aug 20, 2007

Here it is almost one month out from surgery and I haven't added anything here. So, I will go back from surgery day and tell what has been going on.

I had surgery on 7/26/07 @ 2:35pm. We arrived at the hospital at noon and then I went to get some blood drawn came back to the waiting room and then was taken upstairs to get ready for surgery.  My nurse there was great and she was funny.  When it was finally time to get my IV I knew it was going to be difficult to get it in, it always is.  It took Barb (Methodist iv nurse) 4 times to get the iv in.  The last time she just did it with no numbing medication.  It wasn't too painful. I was just glad it was finally in!  I saw Dr Jones before surgery. I was his third surgery of the day.  When it was finally time to go, Stephanie (nurse) came to get me and walked me to the operating room.  I remember getting up on the table and then she told me she was going to give me something to relax and then that is all I remember until I was trying to open up my eyes in recovery.  Dr Jones told Scott that I was the easiest surgery of the day and everything went fine.

I had great nurses in the hospital. My night nurse, Rebecca was great.  She got me up around midnight and I took my first walk.  Not bad at all, then back to bed and up again at 4am to take another walk after getting my pain meds.  I met a few patients while there also. Two that had has bariatric surgery and one other lady that was in for cancer surgery.  We walked quite a bit together. She was going home the day as me, Saturday.

Since getting home I do still get tired on some days.  I am trying to get my liquids in everyday. That is really the hardest part for me.  I just have to keep a glass with me at all times so I remember to keep drinking.  I am now up to about 60oz. a day.

It is amazing to me to not be hungry.  I have to remind myself to eat.  I imagine I could go for a day or two with no food if I didn't keep myself on schedule.  I am so thankful to have this chance to lose my weight and to be healthy, to not have hip, knee and feet pain. To be able to walk up a flight of stairs without having to sit down and rest to catch my breath.  I have two very active little girls that keep me on my toes, and now I will have to chance to be a "better" more active Mom to them and do everything that they want to do, because I CAN DO IT too!!!!

Just thinking....

Jul 16, 2007

I have been thinking alot lately about how people will treat me once I have lost my weight.  I have lost before and people you don't know treat you so much better, pay attention to you, you are invisible.  Sometimes it makes me feel angry because you know who the people are, just because you don't know them by name you recognize them from town and being out and about.  Being overweight you don't seem to exist and many times not even give the time of day.
I know that I am going to be the same person, just looking different on the outside and I will be treated so differently. I know it shouldn't bother me but it does. I hope I stay the same and treat everyone the way I do now. I have read on the boards how some people after they lose weight are not so nice to others that are overweight. We have to remember where we came from and how we felt because we have definitely been in each others shoes.  ALWAYS remember to treat others the way you would want to be treated.

Counting down!

Jul 16, 2007

Here it is down to the last 9 days before surgery. I can't believe that it is here so soon. I started on this journey on March 27 and only one day shy of 4 months I am having surgery.  It seems like forever since I started but looking back it has gone very quickly.  Now I just wonder why I waited so long to get to this point!  Doesn't really matter now because I am here.

I started my 10 day liquid diet yesterday.  It went really well, alot better than I anticipated.  I didn't really feel any hunger until around 615 in the evening, but I made it through and got to bed around 1030pm.

I had extra energy yesterday, not sure why. Maybe I was just keeping myself extra busy not to think about food, and I got alot of things accomplished.  Cleaned in the basement, got donation things ready to go to Joseph's Coat this morning in St Paul. Hopefully this found energy keeps up and I will have this house organized and in order before next Thursday. That would definitely be a good thing!
