Post op appointment

Nov 08, 2013

I thought I was doing pretty well choosing proper foods, but I had it pointed out from the nutritionist at my post op appointment that I was not eating correctly. For breakfast I have been eating plain cheerios with almond milk and usually I put some kind of fruit in the bowl. The night before I had also made Split Pea Soup which I thought was a great diet. Especially since I added carrots, celery, onions, potatoes (I didn't eat the potatoes, they were for my children). I thought I was making healthy food choices.

The Nutritionists set me straight. Apparently I am eating too much liquid/soft foods and need to stick to stuff that has to be cut with a knife. The way she explained it is at this point after the surgery I should be able to handle almost all foods. Not only is cheerios non-nutritious, because milk is put on them its a lot like drinking while you are eating, defeating the surgery. Same goes for the split pea soup. I could get a lot more ham and carrots down if I didn't have the liquid from the soup.

So meat first; chicken, pork, turkey and veggies.

I have also found that I have to have good food to snack on laying around other wise I will grab the junk food. Even though I want to loose weight, I have it set in my head and heart that I will not fail, it is still easy to pick up that bag of chips if it is there. Also, waiting too long between meals can also lead to poor food choices. I know, I have read and read these exact lines, but it is definitely a weakness on my part, and I worry about my food choices everyday.
