Oct 2-- 2 months post-op

Oct 02, 2007

Wow, I can't believe it's been 2 months already since I started my post-op life. I'm pretty well adjusted to my new lifestyle with my VSG, and it's getting easier to figure out how much I can eat at one sitting. I'm down 40 pounds--WAHOO!!! Can't be happier :) Clothes are getting really loose now, I had to get some new pants because the old ones were getting pretty baggy (down 2 sizes).  I'm up to 8 minutes on the eliptical machine, and it's getting easier every day. I have to admit though that my food choices still haven't been the greatest, I need to eat more protein and less carbs. I'm sure I'd be losing at a faster pace if I would make better food choices. I've noticed that I'm a picky eater now, and I feel guilty sometimes when I throw food away. But you know I'd rather throw food away than add it to my hips. And I only eat high quality good tasting food---if it's really cheap or bland tasting I won't even taste it, it's not worth my time or what little space I have in my stomach. One thing I've noticed that really fills me up quickly is anything made with potatoes, which is good because I'm not supposed to eat those anyway so I stay away from them. My mini goal is to lose 20 more pounds by New Years, because we're going to Hawaii and I want to be able to go horse back riding (have to weigh 230 to ride). Can't wait for the trip!!!

Sept 17

Sep 17, 2007

Haven't posted in a little while, so I thought I would update. Down 34 pounds now, losing slower now, but still losing. Eating is pretty easy now, just have to make the right choices. Even though I'm not losing very much as quickly as I was last month, I have noticed my clothes are fitting looser. I should get measurements and see how many inches I've lost. That's pretty much all for now :)

Sept 2, 2007 1 month post-op

Sep 02, 2007

I almost forgot to post today! But I'm down 30 pounds exactly, and feeling better everyday. I'm able to eat most foods comfortably, but they haven't been the healthiest. The good news about not eating the right foods is, that I've only been able to eat a few bites here and there. I need to get back on track with the healthy eating and get more exercise in, but basically I've just been doing normal activities and not been worried about what I'm eating or what I'm doing. I have been making sure to get in as much liquids as I can, because I really don't want to get dehydrated--that would not be good!!!

I have noticed my clothes getting looser, and I have been able to wear some clothes that were pretty tight before surgery so that feels great!

Overall, I am just glad to feel more back to normal and being able to eat more foods. It is really nice to just eat a few bites and be satisfied, it's nice to say "no thanks". I can't wait for the future weeks to come, so I can see more pounds dropping off! I think 30 pounds is probably the most I've ever lost at one time. Now I'm venturing into untravelled territory, how exciting!!!

Aug 16--2 weeks post-op

Aug 16, 2007

Today I am 2 weeks post-op and down 20 pounds exactly! Wahoo!! I started soft foods last night, couldn't help myself :) and they went down pretty good. I have a hard time remembering that I can't eat and drink at the same time, but I'll get used to it. Eating and drinking is a lot easier now that I'm a few weeks out. I need to start keeping track of what I eat, now that I can eat actual foods. I think I will start that today, and see how many calories I can actually get in and keep the carbs low.
I started a list of goals that I want to do once I get closer to goal. The list keeps me motivated and focused on the prize :)
I have a confession, I am obsessed with the scale. I know I shouldn't be, but it's irresistable! I only check once in the morning, but I will probably start checking weekly. But we'll see

Well the weightloss has slowed down a bit, but I guess another 3 pounds gone in 3 days isn't too bad, but I really liked it when I was losing 2 pounds a day. A pounds a day is ok, as long as it keeps going at that rate  So now I've lost a total of 18 in 11 days. I think I need to up my calories and protein so I will keep losing. I haven't been keeping track of calories or anything, but I'm guessing I might at the most get 300-400 calories in and about 30g protein. But I have been getting in quite a bit of water. And I have been doing about a 15-20min walk, could probably up that a bit. Going back to work today full time, I did go for a few days last week part time, but I was glad to have some re-cooperating time at home and not worry about work.

Aug 9---7 days post-op

Aug 09, 2007

So today is my 7th day post-op and I have graduated to full liquids--THANK YOU GOD!! They are doing pretty good, I just have to make sure they are really soupy--because I tried some mashed potatoes but I needed to make them soupier, so they went down pretty slowly, but it's all good.

BUT the REALLY good news is that I'm down 15 pounds in one week!! I haven't been at this weight for at least 7 or 8 years, I'm really happy with my VSG :) Can't wait to continue to get rid of more pounds!

I'm going to try to get more protien in now since I can eat more of a variety. Had a protien hot chocolate, that was pretty good--will probably be having that more often.....mmmmm!

Aug 7 Journal--5 days post-op

Aug 07, 2007

Lots of people say day 5 post-op is where it starts to get a little easier eating, and I have to agree. I am able to drink more, not near what I'm supposed to but I'd say I got in around 2 cups of liquids, which is better than the 1/2 cup I was getting. I don't feel as nauseaous, so that helps. I still haven't felt physical hunger, but I have had some head hunger, and I can't wait to be able to eat more of a variety---this clear liquid diet is BORING!  I am one of those people who love variety in my food tastes and it has to be a really tastey--not bland. Only 2 more days and I'm on full liquids! Wahoo!

I still can't believe I had surgery 5 days ago, it's still surreal. The only thing I notice is my lack of energy, but that is because of the lack of calories.

My dad asked me if it's hard not being able to eat regular food, and I said a little but not much because I don't feel any physical hunger and I know it would all come back up if I did eat it. It's way easier to resist regular food than before my VSG, my tool is working!

Woke up around 10am started my antibiotics, took my acid reducer, and a pain pill (didn't really need the pain pill, but I thought I'd see what would happen if I did). I'm feeling light headed with little energy, so I started apple juice and crystal light. I decided to make some chicken stock from the recipe I got out of Susan Maria's book, so I threw it all into a big pot and let it boil. Then about 1pm I was feeling really tired so I took a nap until 4pm, and by then the chicken stock was done. Smells great! I've noticed lots of smells make me nauseous now, but I hope that goes away eventually.

Just been catching up on emails and posting on here to let everyone know I made it home safely.

Still need to work on getting more liquids in, but it's getting better.

Got up around 9am took a shower and started packing for the trip back home. Drank some more apple juice and ate a little jello also started my acid blocker. Caught the free shuttle to the airport at 11am. Checked in the bags, then bought a water and apple juice after security. Flew to Houston, then Seattle, and finally Anchorage. Got back around 8:30pm Alaska time and stopped at the store for a few things before the 3 hour drive home. Not to mention we had to make it to the road construction before 12am since the road closes from 12am to 6am, so we were rushing! But I felt pretty good, even though the long trip home. I'm still struggling getting in more than a few sips, but I'm working on it.

Today I felt ok, but a little light headed--probably since I hadn't had any calories for the past 2 days. Dr. A came in to go over my meds and see how I was doing with the jello and juice they brought in for me. I could get down a little of the jello but grape juice just isn't my flavor so I didn't get much of that in. But he said that was ok. So we said our goodbyes, and then Berto drove us across the border. I picked up some more jello and apple juice in Eagle Pass and slept most of the way back to San Antonio. We checked into the hotel around 1pm and rested for a little while, then decided to go sit by the pool and get some fresh air. I was feeling pretty good so, we took the free shuttle to the big forum shop mall and walked around for about and hour, then decided to go back to the hotel and rest for a while. I ordered some won ton soup and drank a few sips of broth, and ate a little more jello. I'm still trying to sip and not swallow air, very hard!
