I have been overweight almost my entire life. I might have been normal weight as a baby, but ever since then, I've been heavy. I was about 50 pounds overweight when I met my husband, and given the fact that we both liked to eat out, and I'm a plate cleaner, I really packed on the pounds from there. I first started researching weight loss surgery back in 2000 when I was about 100 pounds overweight. My mom was very against it (of course, she was able to lose her weight the old fashioned way and keep it off), so I avoided the conflict and gave up on it.
Over the next couple of years, I continued to gain weight and thought about researching my surgery options again in 2002, but instead I joined Weight Watchers and lost 75 pounds. Fast forward to 2004, my husband and I moved to Florida, and I missed home terribly. I feel into a depression/funk, and I proceeded to gain back all of my weight plus some extra. In mid-2005, we returned to Ohio, and I was at my highest weight ever (305). I lost about 25 pounds, but I wasn't able to get over the hump to lose any more weight. In early 2006, I began looking into WLS again, and I told my family to either support me or keep their negative opinions to themselves because this was the journey I wanted to take.
I proceeded to start the process only to find that my insurance at the time (BCBS of IL) was not very easy to deal with. However, in July of 2006 by the grace of God, my husband started a new job with better insurance, but due to work demands and change in insurance plans, I was not able to actively start the process again until January of 2007. After completing all the requirements for surgery approval, dealing with my parents impending divorce, moving in with my disabled mother, getting a promotion at work, and trying to maintain my sanity, I was finally approved for surgery, and my surgery is scheduled for June 6, 2007. I am so excited to begin this journey, and I am looking forward to my "rebirthday"!
