10 Year High School Reunion

Jul 30, 2007

Friday night I went to my high school reunion. I can't believe it's been 10 years. But then again, maybe I should believe it since I don't remember anything or hardly anyone. We went to Sherlock's Bar. There were only about 50 people from our graduating class there. About 150 people graduated with us. Of course, it was the in-crowd that mostly showed up. The people I remember being wonderful & fun to hang out with, weren't there. Surprisingly, some of them haven't changed. I should pinch myself for saying this, but I was actually kind of delighted to see that the jocks all got fat. I remember in high school how the jocks made fun of fat people. Now look who's laughing. Even the female jocks gained weight. Again, that put a smile on my face. I remember how nasty they were to people who weren't involved in sports. Anyway. It was fun. Of course, due to my surgery I couldn't drink alcohol & didn't eat the food. I have always disliked being sober around drunk people, but this night, I enjoyed it. It was hilarious watching the drunken people dance or attempt to. It's funny when women get drunk, they all think they are lesbian. Or maybe it is just an opportune time to try it out & have an excuse the next day. Most of the women from our class were up on the dance floor bumping & grinding eachother while the men watched & smiled. It was fun, but I had to leave early. I had to get home to my daughter. So I am walking out into the dark parking lot to the far end where I parked. There is a a man in a truck sitting there with his lights out. I'm creeped out. I begin to worry, so I put my biggest key between my fingers in case I have to use it as a weapon. I am walking quickly as I watch this truck, to make sure no one jumps out & attacks me. Just then, I hit a freaking speed bump & went flying. As I am trying to get up this man gets out of his truck to see if I'm okay. I felt like an a$$. I was probably the most sober person leaving that night, but I looked like the most drunk. I tore open my right hand & tore up my right knee. The sad part is this isn't the first time I've fallen. 2 weeks ago I was getting my daughter off the top of the car by putting her on my back. I was leaning back to let her off at the curb & I got weak. I felt like I was going to fall. So I tried to get her to let go, but it all happened too fast. I didn't want to fall on her so I leaned forward & she never let go. So I fell into the street with her on my back. The street is paved, but has gravel along with the pavement. I tore up my left hand & left knee. I looked like I was in Nightmare on Elm Street. So, still not recovered from that incident, I did it again. I think I better go buy some knee pads. That day I didn't really eat anything because I was so nauseous. So I was really weak.
The next day we had our High School Reunion Family Day. We planned on going to a park, but because of the daily rain showers we get, it was moved to Chuck E Cheese. It was fun. I ate the cheese off my daughters half eaten pizza slice. We played over 100 games. I still didn't get a chance to talk to many people. Like the bar, it was really loud in there. It was still good to see some of those people. Initially I didn't want to go & relive those painful memories. But I thought it would be a good idea to go back & say "Hey, you didn't break me." Anyway. The one disappointer was that my ex did not show up to the Adult Mixer or the Family Day. I was really excited for him to see how good I look & to see how good he looks. Oh well. It was an interesting 2 days & I am still exhausted.
