I am looking to have surgery to help give me a tool to get this weight off. I am miserable inside and a lot of people dont know about it. I want to feel better.
I have since seen my GP and he is extremly supportive of me having the procedure. He is willing to help in any way he can to get it approved. i have learned that i need to be on a monitered plan for 6 months before i can be approved for the surgery. My first appointment will be on Nov. 18th. I am so excited and can't wait to start my journey.
My Mother Connie has had the gastric procedure and has lost over 93 lbs. I am so proud of her. She has a profile here too.
I have had my first consult with my surgeon and it went extremly well. I have also been to a mandatory inforamtion/support meeting that was extremley incourging. I have also been to my general MD and he is submitting a letter to Cigna stating that this is a medical necessity for me to have this surgery. Hopefully i wont have a huge fight with Cigna for approval. I understand that they are extremly hard to get approval for this surgery. If i dont i have blue cross and i will try them. I understand also that Cigna is no longer approving the surgerys in 2005. Hopefully i can be grandfathered in for 2005. If anyone has info on this please let me know.

Update:
I have submitted a letter to blue cross pacific care and they have denied the procedure. They reffered me back to my general MD for monitiored weight loss. What a crock of (*&^#). It's like the insurance companies dont understand the long tirm affects. Anyway i will be appealing the denial as soon as i get the letter in the mail from Blue Cross. If any one has any advice please let me know.

Update:
Well it turns out that my doctor i was recomended to will not do my surgery with out the consent for blood!! Theres no way I am going to let a man who does not have enough confindence in himself to perform this surgery that has an extremley low need for any blood transfusion. It tells me that he is not confident in himself!! I am currently looking for another surgeon!!!

Wow it has been a really long time since i have updated. I have been seeing the bariatric team at Cedars Synai in Beverley Hills and WOW have they great! They were just rated #1 in the world for bariatric treatment. I have lost over 50 lbs to qualify for surgery and my surgery is out for approval.
I did my final blood test and should be schedualing the surgery for the 15th or the 18th of Dec. It was approved and i am so excited! This has been a four year journey to my new life and i can't wait to get started!
12-11-06 Well in my last post i said that i was approved but turns out the nurse was incorrect in her thinking andi am now waiting to hear from Blue Cross if it's approved or not. The date is the 20th of Dec at 8:15am i hope everything is a go I have so many wonderful people who are supporting me on this journey.
