I am 61 years old and married. I have 4 children, 1 step child and 6 grandchildren. I get around in a power chair as I had a stroke 6 years ago. At the time of my stroke I was about 90 pounds overweight and now I've gained another 90 pounds. I have many health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis and sleep apnea. Like many others I have tried every diet in the books and joined professional weight loss programs over the years. Some of them were even successful but I always went back to old bad habits. I was afraid to have wls because of being put to sleep. I feared having another stroke. My doctor finally told me that she strongly recommended the lap band surgery or I may not be around. I have had my consultation with Dr. Alene Wright at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha NE and I'm doing the 6 month weight management thing with a nutritionist and my doctor. I do not have a surgery date yet. My husband questions whether this will help or not but I don't feel that I have a lot of options left. I don't want to wait and see if a miracle comes along. I'm ready to give this a try.
My highest weight was 318, currently at 300 and must be at 270 by surgery time. I have set a goal of 150, but ...my lowest adult weight was 103 when I got married. I am only 5 ft 1 in so as you see I'm a big object in a small package. I hate exercise and it is really difficult to stand so I have to keep my calories low in order not to gain. As soon as I figure out this computer thing I'' ll try to post a picture and a ticker.
