March 3, 2009 3 Month Post-Op

Mar 03, 2009

I am 3 months out and have only lost about 16 pounds.  I feel discouraged because I was losing so well before surgery and now I'm having all sorts of issues.  My last fill left me with real restriction.  I have slimed and even vomited once.  I can not tolerate beef and pork.  They tend to get stuck and with chicken I have to add gravy or sauces to get it down.  I'm eating a lot of soft foods and "sliders".  I am recommitting myself to the band and will go back to the basics to see if I can straighten this out before I start gaining.  I still love my band and know in my mind this is the way to go.

I had another fill, it's been 4 weeks since the last one.  I lose and gain the same 5 pounds.  They put 2 cc in me this time, I hope I'm getting closer to my "sweet spot".  I feel tight in the morning and by late afternoon I could eating anything.  At least I'm the same or losing a little.  I can tell in my clothes but the scale just won't give me a break.

I got my first fill (under fluoroscopy).  He put 4 cc in my 14 cc band.  I didn't feel anything.  I hope this gives me some restriction.  I have lost maybe 1 pound over the last week.  I'm begining to walk a little with my cane, I'm very clumsy but still walking.

1 month Post-Op-Jan 3, 2009

One month down.  11 pounds down since surgery.  This week I've had a loss each day, I was in a rut before.  I'm still eating the way I should but I know I've lost any swelling there was.  I eat but don't stay satisfied until the next meal.  Jan 8th I see the surgeon and hopefully will start getting fills.  On Tuesday Jan 6th I go for a "lumpectomy" on my left breast.  I can't wait to get all this medical stuff out of the way, my body must wonder what is going on.

The scale is finally moving!  It's been 2 weeks and 1 day since surgery.  I'm still having trouble getting in enough calories and protien.   Recovery has been swift.  I never did experience any gas pains, dry lips or nausea, but I was prepared.  Started today on pureed foods, wow!  I feel full on 1/2 cup of food, it's amazing.  3 more weeks till I get a fill.

Feeling great!  Never did get the gas pains, I'm not complaining.  I still can't eat very much without feeling full.  Only one problem, I haven't lost any weight, not even half a pound.  My family says to stay away from the scale my body is still trying to figure out what I did to it.  I just need to be patient.   I'm hoping by Christmas dinner at my niece's house that I will be able to eat a few things.  If every thing goes well I should be on soft foods.

Had my surgery on December 3rd.  I feel great.  Surgery went well and no problems.  I thought this day would never come.  I'm on semi-liquids and I have no saline in my band yet.  I am not hungry just eat because I'm suppose to.  Sip, sleep and walk with my walker.  DH helps but is more in the way than of any real use.  No gas yet, but I hear that can come anytime.

Seen breast surgeon today and I have the beginning of breast cancer.  He is going to let me go forward with my lap band surgery and after 3 weeks he will do a "lumpectomy" followed by radiation.  Prognosis is supposedly good.  The heart doctor who did my heart cauterization says I have one artery with a 40% blockage-- Nothing to worry about for now and gave me a green light for surgery.  I will hold my breath that nothing else happens.  I felt great till I started to get cleared for lap band surgery.  I wish I would have done this surgery years ago.  No more waiting-life just too short.  I'm going to get healthy, if it kills me!

I have a date!  December 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.  I can't quite believe it, I've waited so long (15 months to be exact).  Now to finish up some of my last minute tests and I'm home free.  I am suppose to start on my pre-op diet today, no time for that "last supper".

The breast biopsy is over and it was much simpler and less discomfort than I thought it would be.  Unfortunately, I won't know the results for 2 or 3 days.  I have managed to stay on my lap band eating and lost a pound, so some good news.
