feeling good!
May 10, 2010
I am so happy to say that the scale keeps moving down! I joined a gym and now i am working out every day and using weights. I have a workout buddy who helps me so much. Actually, I seem to have a few friends who want to work out with me, so that is good.
I uploaded new pics today and I cannot believe how much I can see a difference already! Wow! I have not weighed this little in many years. It feels so good to finally be successful!
Friends and family are all learning how I should be eating, so that helps a lot. When we have Sunday dinner, I am always served the appropriate size serving. It makes such a difference.
I need to find a support group. That is my next goal.

It has been over a month since my surgery and it's been pretty rocky but I am doing ok. I have been losing weight consistently and i am ok with the level of restriction. I am learning that I often eat because of habits, rather than hunger. For example, eating Reese's pieces and popcorn with a huge soda during the movie was just something I did, even if it was after dinner. Also, when my friends and family are eating, I often feel the need to eat but not always the hunger. I want to be able to sit and have a family meal again...that is one thing that is being affected by this surgery-my family is not eating together very often. We need to start doing that, even if we are all eating something different. The good thing is, I have a lot of friends and a pretty supportive family and that helps a lot. I am ready to find a local support group now. I think I will benefit from that tremendously. So that will be my next step.
Also, just wondering if anyone else had a grueling and difficult first fill? It took my doctor a really long time to find the center of the port, which really freaked me out. I am hoping it's not only me. i am not looking foward to the next fill!

5 days to surgery...finally!
Feb 18, 2010
I cannot believe it was last August when i first made up my mind to get lap-band surgery. It's only 5 days away and I am both excited and incredibly nervous. I am trying to follow the pre-op diet but its been a stressful week at work and i am having a hard time. I am taking time off and i will not go back to work until a week from Monday. It will be nice. My mother-in-law is coming to town to be with me and help me post-op. I will post my official before pics as soon as i am able.

Day 1 of my new life
Dec 30, 2009
I am awaiting my surgery..coming in February. I had to switch surgeons because of insurance reasons and that set me back quite a bit. I have to get a nutritionist consult and a scope now and then I am all set. Everything else has been completed. I will be with Dr. Burpee at Northwest Hospital in Tucson. He has a great reputation. Although I really liked Dr. Monash, I am looking foward to getting to know Dr. Burpee as well.
In the meantime, I got a phone call today from my doctor. They checked my bloodwork and basically she told me this: my cholesterol is now high, blood pressure remains super high (even with the addition of a new med) and now my blood sugar is so high that I am considered pre-diabetic. Add all that to morbid obesity. Not good.
So today is Day 2 of new renewed commitment to being healthy and happy. I have been walking and am using the food and exercise log here on this website. My goals are the same before surgery as after-to be healthier and to live a better life.
