First Pre-op Appointment

Aug 04, 2005

My appointment went fine. I took my husband with me because for me it was a good thing to have a second pair of ears hearing what they all were saying. You start out with about a 2 hour classroom session with Dr. Shirmer's head nurse, his nutritionist, and his insurance handler. It was all very well presented. Most of what they tell you is information you can also get on the OH website, but they present it in a very "user friendly" manner. I was there from 8am to 2:30pm. Really though, it didn't feel like such a long time.

I liked Dr Shirmer. He is a very experienced and knowledgable doctor. I was happy that he gave me all the time I needed and answered my questions honestly. I am very comfortable with him as my surgeon.

8/3/05-Hello. I guess it's time to start writing something in here. My name is Ellen. I'm 33 years old, married with 2 children. I found this website some time ago while searching for information aobut WLS, but didn't see the boards until my friend Dave C. told me about it. I have really enjoyed reading the posts and profiles on here. Having WLS is a major decision, and it's been a blessing for me to be able to learn more and be encouraged by the people that post. I go to my first consult with Dr. Shirmer tomorrow and I'm fairly nervous. I really don't know what to expect other than it will take all day. I will post more when I get home.
