Surgery or no surgery?

Feb 05, 2014

Hello OH boys and girls.

I'm writin again after a while. I was unable because I was sick. This damn cold weather is really wearing me down and I fell pain in every part of my body. Anyway, I was doing research about surgery options and I can say that the information I found was not all the appealing :( The complications, death rates, post operative care and cost...well horrible.

I read a story that one girl's (she's a very young woman when you compare her to me) stomach exploded after having WLS, in this case a lap-band. I thought that was one of the safest procedures out there, and now I read this. I can't believe it. If that is possible from having a lap-band inserted, what could happen with other surgeries?

I need help from you people. If you would be so kind, I would ask you to post a comment on this blog, and tell me which surgery did you have and what complications did you suffer from (if you did have any). My doctor recommend me not to have any surgery that involves rerouting my intestines. I'm pretty old and it will be hard for me to recover from it. He says that I should chose from

  • lap-band
  • gastric sleeve
  • vertical banded gastroplasty
  • gastric plication or
  • intragastric balloon.

I also saw online that a new procedure, called the Endoluminal Sleeve is starting to be performed in the US. Does anybody know something about it? This is mosty malabsorptive procedure but it does not include rerouting your intestines. Any additional information? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot,

Margaret.
