Where is everyone?

It seems like a ghost town and none of the people I remember are around. Did I miss something?

Elizabeth N.'s Vitamin Shopping list
Jul 08, 2010
I have been spending only slightly less just on calcium what Elizabeth spends per month for all of her vitamins. She kindly posted me her shopping list:
Post Date: 7/8/10 11:57 am
My base multi is Kirkland's Centrum-equivalent, 2 daily, 500 for $12.75 = about $18/yr, or $1.50/month.
My calcium is Kirkland calcium citrate, 8 daily, 300 for $6.99 = about $68/yr, or $5.67/month.
Vitalady D3 50, 2 daily, 100 for $23.74 = $173.30/yr, or $14.44/month. Call it $15/month with shipping.
Vitalady Tender dry A Palmitate 25, 2 daily, 100 for $5.33 = $38.90/yr or $3.25/month. Call it $4 with shipping.
Vitaladay Tender Iron, 3 daily, 400 for $15.29 = $42.05/yr or $3.50/mo. Call it $4 with shipping.
I'm growing weary of writing out all the math here, so now I'm going to abbreviate to monthly :-).
Puritan's Pride chelated zinc, 2 daily, $2.06/month.
Puritan's Pride chelated copper, 1 daily, $1.50/month.
Magnesium citrate, brand varies, but using Vitalady prices, 4 daily, $10.95/month
GNC chewable vitamin C in a vat sized container, 1 lozenge daily, um, oh I dunno, $2/month maybe.
Liquid B-12 when I think about it, another buck a month at most.
B-100 complex a couple times a week, well under a buck a month, probably pennies a month.
Not currently taking extra folic acid as those levels are well above top normal range.
Hmmm, I think I have everything now. Grand total: $46.18/month. Well I'll be darned, I underestimated a bit. Oh well, it's still a lot less than the couple hundred a month in paid in prescription copays alone--at either $3 or $6 a pop--plus oxygen supply costs, etc.... :-)

Long time no see
Jul 07, 2010
While I have grown to love my DS and the normal life it has provided, there are some things it couldn't change. I am still a clumsy oaf. While stepping off a curb and not paying attention, I stepped into a small pothole, fell and broke my left elbow. Nasty compound fracture and I am not cleared to return to work for two weeks. I am bored to tears. Day time tv is horrible. So you guys are stuck with me for awhile.
I am typing one handed and a little buzzy from the Vicoden, so please be patient with me.

Broccoli Pizza Crust
Apr 30, 2008
This looks delicious, but I wonder if I could substitute spinach for the broccoli? Next time I get a culinary urge, I'll have to try it.

Broccoli Crust Pizza
2 cups cooked broccoli shredded (squeeze out as much water as you can)
2 large eggs
2 cups shredded mozzarella
1 cup shredded cheddar
1tsp garlic powder
combine all and press evenly into well greased pizza pan or cookie sheet (this makes a LARGE 14 inch crust)
sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper and basil (if desired)
Bake at 450 degrees until browned and bubbly (15-20 minutes)

Bathing Suits
Apr 29, 2008
I spent last evening trying on bathing suits at Macy's. No matter how thin I am now, it really isn't any easier than when I was heavy. Maybe I wasn't as picky then, it's not like my fat could be hidden, but struggling to find a suit that doesn't highlight just those problem areas I want to hide is a nightmare.
If it doesn't crawl up my butt crack, my thighs poof out of the leg openings like the top of a souffle. I love the molded bra cups for the extra support they provide, but why do they assume that one size fits all? If the suit fits, it's a guarantee that I'll have enough room to carry my beach towel in the extra cup room.
In my pre-op mind, this was supposed to be one of those things that would become easier. It hasn't.

Iron
Apr 06, 2008
I am currently taking 2000 mg of calcium citrate, 2 multi's, and a B complex. My recent labs showed that I was low in Ferritin (7) and on the lower normal range of iron (40). I started taking ferrous gluconate on the advice of my PCP, but it did nothing for my sluggishness. A friend suggested that, due to my malabsorption, I might require a different formulation. I discovered this site while Googling info on iron absorption and the DS, lurked for awhile searching for iron info, and finally decided to join. I am now on Tender iron from Vitalady and am feeling better already. Hopefully my labs next month will show an improvement.
I had no idea that there was so much to learn about vitamins and nutrition with the DS. I consider myself lucky that I've had no major complications from my general lack of knowledge. I dodged a bullet and I intend to learn all I can to keep myself healthy.
