My name is Melissa I am 31 years old and live in Wild and Wonderful WV.    I have not always been overweight.  I was always around 123lbs.  until after highschool.   So between the stress of becoming an adult and having to be responsible for myself, the real world, real bills and some personal stress, I am now 268 lbs.    I have struggled for 10 years with the continuous ups of my weight.   I have dieted been to doctor after doctor, and can never seem to keep the weight off.    I swore I would never even look into WLS it terrified me.    And now my journey begins.

I started the process in may 2007.  Luckily I had already been on a supervised diet so when I had my first visit with the doctor I already had my 6 months dieting out of the way.   I had recently been in the hospital for a severe anxiety attack so I had my x-rays and EKG also already completed.   The only steps I had left were my psychology/nutrition and my Upper GI.  I completed everything by the end of June and was scheduled with Dr. Carol McClosky at Magee Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh PA. I was very nervous about the surgery but excited all in the same.

WELCOME TO MY JOURNEY:

Well I am finally home from the hospital.  I ended up having to spend an extra night due to the fact that I had some swelling above my band and no liquids could pass through.  I was put on a liquid drip and antibiotics incase of infection and so I would not dehydrate.   All was fine I was sent home.  My first day home was definately an adjustment.  I never have really experienced any pain.  I do have discomfort and am sore.   So far so good I am keeping everything down and so far I have never thrown up.   I have been eatting sugar free jello, chicken broth, and eddy's sugar free fruit bars.

Today is a new day I got up took my vitamin, got out my water, and my jello.   Sat around most of the day and watched some t.v.  Just kicked back and took it easy.   Sleeping was not an easy thing , I am used to sleeping on my stomach and am having to sleep on my back yuk!   I am only sleeping for two hours at a time and then up to pee ha!

O.K.  today is a new day and I WANT CAPTAIN CRUNCH HA!    Didn't realize this was going to be so tough.  First day I've really wanted something that I cannot have.    I am losing my mind just having to sit here.  I am ready to get up and clean clean clean!   So I ate a popsicle and watched days of our lives lol    Still no pain just getting more sore by the day.   My incisions look great and I think I am healing just fine physically, but have some huge mental adjustments to make.

Well another sleepless night, I can only sleep for two hours still.   I move from the bed to the couch and then back to the bed.  I can't wait to sleep on my stomach!  One of my friends came over today and took me for a car ride woo hoo!  I was so excited to get out and get into something else.  I had my normal routine today.  The vitamin, jello, strained cambpells chicken noodle soup w/some crackers (which I had to because I was not getting full, but I crunched them up very small and only ate two/and I did not get sick) popsicles, some t.v., a vitamin and back to bed.

Well today is my 10 year wedding anniversay!!!!!    I have been with my husband for 15 years and married for 10 of those.  He is a really great guy.   Of course the anniversay couldn't be celebrated like a normal one.   No romance and no dinner out lol!!!   We made it just fine....actually we went and looked at Rhino's and went to A.C. Moore which was my first real trip out of the house.   I walked more today then I had since I had came home.    I was very tired (which meant I need to start walking more frequently) and actually started to dehydrate.   Got to the car drank some water for the next couple of hours and was fine.  It was wonderful to get out among people  :-)

Well.......today is my grandmothers b-day and 7 days post-op.  My mom made my grandma a turkey dinner.    I did break down and eat , but just a little.   I had a very very very small portion of mashpotatoes w/gravy, turkey (very moist) and some water.   It did feel good to have food but I also felt guilty.  I guess just knowing back to the doc in a couple of days and this would be allowed I wasn't afraid to try.  I have had no problems with liquids ever thus far.

Slept better last night!!!  Actually slept on my stomach wow!   I mean that was just like a fairy tale come true.   I didn't want to get up it was wonderful!!   Got up same routine as above.  Today my husband and I spent the entire day at the Honda dealer buying a RHINO.  I can't wait to be able to ride it!  Just a little tired and still sore.....no pain!!!

Same routine.....slept great again!   HAD A BAD DAY!!!!!   Today I really cheated!!!!   I went to McDonalds and bought Mcnuggets and ate 5!!!!!!!!!  I don't know what I was thinking!!!  I am so disappointed in myself I need to get on track I need support and will power.   I cried and decided it was time to take control.   Tonight is where I found obesityhelp.com   Since then it has helped me tremendously reading and gaining all the knowledge of the other peoples experiences.   If I had not found this site I think I would have just fallen apart.  This site is so helpful with the do's and don'ts and also just reading everybodys personal experiences.  Thank God!!!

Same routine....only I am not going to be hard on myself.   After the MCNuggett scare I decided to stick to broth today.   I drove to the Family Dollar and got some house hold items and cleaned.  I was tired and had to lie down for a while and I felt like I had over done it.  I survived....but I noticed one of my incisions were leaking.   It really stressed me out I DO NOT WANT AN INFECTION!!!!!!!   I believe what has happened is that where I have been sleeping on my stomach I have torn a scab off of my stomach.   1st post-op appointment tomorrow I guess I will have to wait and see..........
