My name is Deb, I am 48 years old. I have 2 daughters that are biological and 2 adopted children. I started packing on the pounds shortly after I turned 23. If I could have back all the money I have spent over the years on dieting I would be living in high style.

6/20/06 Went for my consultation today and also for my " am I in my right mind" evaluation. All went well. Now everything has to be turned in to insurance.

7/3/06 Went to support group. What an awsome group of people. Very supportive and helpful.

7/14/06 Well I had everything getting turned in to the insurance, but they already want more information. I need to see the dietician and have blood work done. So on Monday I'll go get it completed and hopefully have enough of what they want. Waiting on the insurance for an approval really works on your nerves. It's all I think about from the time I get up till I go to bed.

7/17/06 Well I went for my blood work to have my thyroid checked to rule out problems for insurance. Also had my visit with the nutrtionist to let me know what my diet will be like after surgery. So now I'm back to waiting again. These have to be turned in to insurance and then they will review it.

7/25/006 Wow!!! Today is my 25th wedding anniversary. Where do's time go ? We did what our 2 youngest kids wanted to do, which was go eat pizza ! That was fine by me. At least we were together as a family.

7/31/006 Well I have the long awaited approval and my surgery date is August 15th. Now I have started my 800 calorie a day pre-op diet to help shrink my liver. Boy it is not easy. You really have to make wise choices so you get some food that will carry you through the day. So far all my pre-op tests have been good. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like being thinner after so many years of being obese.

8/18/006 My surgery day was Tuesday August 15th. I really thought I would be scared but I wasn't at all. The Morphine made me lose track of all of surgery day and most of the next day. I don't remember much at all. I'm quite sore and I know in time that will get better. Trying to get in all my nutrition is super hard. I'm just not hungry at all at this point. I have had to force down the shakes.

9/14/006 Boy I have been really lazy about updating ! Well tomorrow I will be one month out and I have no regrets at all for having had the surgery. I have had some pretty bad days since going on to soft foods, but mostly due to either eating to fast or drinking to fast and up it comes. I've lost 30 pounds ! Wow !! I can't believe how much more energy I already hae. All I want to do is clean ,clean, clean. I think my family feels like they have a new person living here. Before all I wanted to do was sleep and be a grouch.

10/11/006 Well I am down 45 pounds now ! If I could only get in excercise. I get tired so easy. I still have days when I vomit alot, but mainly due to my own stupidity of eating or drinking to fast. I just can't believe how I am changing, and how much better I have begun to feel. I sleep better, my incontinance is 100% better ! Yippy !!! Don't wet my pants as much. Hard to believe fall is here and Christmas is just around the corner. It is going to be so awsome being thin this year and wearing something nice.

1/26/007 Well as of today I am now down 93 pounds !! My 6 month visit is on February 15th and I have hopes of having my 100 pounds off.

I have had nothing but a truly wonderfull expierience with everyone at Iowa Bariatrics. Dr. VerSteeg makes sure you fully undestand your surgery and everything that go's along with it. I was even given the chance to change my mind by his surgery team before I was taken to surgery. All my questions have always been answered, phone calls always returned. All of the office staff are truly sincere in seeing you do your best. Aftercare is stressed and how important going to support group is. His bedside manner is unlike any doctor I have ever had. He is a very caring person. I could never have put my self in better hands than Dr. VerSteeg and his team. I highly recomend them for Bariatric Surgery.
