"I was surprised at the care and compassion given by the staff at the Guelph General Hospital. This has not always been the case in other facilities.
They understood my need for independence pre and post op and let me set my own pace.
They didn't force or suggest pain killers only let me know how to use the pump if I felt I needed it.
All of my questions were answered thoroughly and politely.
I of course have a different time frame than the nurses and actually/accidentally pulled my IV out as I couldn't wait to get washed until someone came and unhooked me. I know that the nurses get busy but when you are told that someone will unhook you in a few minutes and a couple of hours go by and nothing has happened you might get a little antsy. This is my only negative comment and a suggestion (if for any reason) the staff can't get back to you to do the necessary, maybe there should be some sort of alert system for the patients to understand the delay. I put only three stars for restfully quiet, because I don't find hospitals restful at all. I always want to be at home to rest."
"I was thrilled with the care and concern that Dr. Pereira-Hong showed me on the four occasions that I spoke with her. During the initial meet the surgeon appointment, she treated me with respect and answered all of my questions in a compassionate manner.
Pre and post op visits were in the same manner and she listened to my requests as well. I had no pain and asked not to be administered any Tylenol and that request was respected. The pump was left on for in case I over did it or felt pain later on.
My 7/8 month post op visit was again conducted in a positive/caring and empathetic manner. I no longer need to see her but if complications arise such as hernia/ulcers I will of course be asking if she would be the attending. I would recommend her as a surgeon for this or any other procedure.
Oh right, I should tell you that I had the RNY and am one year post op and feeling terrific. "
