Apr 16, 2007

Not too much happening.  Incissions are healing well.  I've got some stuff from arbonne.com coming soon to help with them.  I've hit a stall; I've lost 20lbs and quit.  I figure the body is freaking out and has gone into starvation mode and trying to catch up on what is happening.  I'm also having trouble getting all the protein and fluids in.

I'm trying to fix that as of today with a 42g protein bullet in my water and walking tonight before dinner.  I'm waiting until my 6 week checkup before getting on the elliptical again.  I want to make sure everything is mostly healed and I'm not going to open something up.

Went shopping for a couple of tops this weekend.  The ones I have are beginning to gape open.  I can tell that the weight I have lost is in my stomach and hips which is fantastic.  I figured those would be the last places I would lose- being my boobs the first to disapear.

I've been getting cravings lately.  Friday and Saturday I had to have shrimp.  We bought some at the market and I cleaned and cooked them up with lemon juice, italian seasoning, and a touch of EVOO... YUMMY!  Today it is asparagus I'm craving, so we'll stop at the market again and pick some up along with some LF or FF Italian Dressing for a marinade.  GOOD Stuff!  All I can say is at least I'm not craving Chocolate like I used to.  I tried some Sugar Free Dove chocolate and it made me sick.  And I'm not craving chocolate protein shakes like I did pre-op.  Go figure!

I did find something out today that has me in a dither.  I can't drink Decaf tea (hot or cold)-  It gives me the runs something fierce!  I am a huge tea drinker and don't know what I'm going to do with myself!  I'll give it a rest for a couple of weeks and try again.  That would be a major loss for me besides pasta.

I love to cook italian pasta dishes like baked ziti, manacotti and stuffed shells.  I'm going to have to figure out something else to make them with.  The manacotti would work with egg plant or squash and the stuffed shells with mushrooms but the ziti has me stumped.  Oh well, I'll figure something out soon.

That's it for now.  I'll update my ticker after tomorrow's weigh-in.

Apr 06, 2007

It's been awhile since I posted.  Here is what is up so far.

Surgery on Tuesday went well.  We arrived at the hospital just before 9am and got set up in a bed.  Changed clothes and an IV was placed and all that.  After about an hour we moved to the pre-surgery waiting area... waited another 2 hours or so and then was taken in.  I was told I would be given something to ease me into sleep but I was knocked out immediately.  I woke up in recovery a bit drowsy but not in any real pain.  I haven't had any real pain yet.  This has been a very easy process for me so far.  I was up within a couple of hours and walking.  My first attempt was only to the door to my room but after that I was walking the hall about every 2 hours.  They stopped the BP monitoring at midnight and the IV at 2am.  I haven't been on regular pain meds since then.

They fed us Apple juice and jell-o for breakfast and pureed pork chop and peach for lunch.  I was lucky enough to share a room with a great gal named Alishia.  There were 3 of us who had GP that day.  Alishia and I were released from the hospital at around 2:30 that afternoon.

I've been doing real well with food.  I haven't found anything that I have any real problem with yet.  Beef takes a bit longer to get down and my one love- Ranch Dressing has a funny taste to it.  I'll have to find a subsitute or fat free or low fat version that I can tolerate.  I do fine with milk products, pears, cream of wheat, refried beans w/ cheese, soups and such.

I went to my 1 week check on Tuesday 4/3 and was told everything was going well. I had lost 14lbs so far and was released to go back to work on Monday, 4/9.

I've been very busy this week.  My son passed his DMV written test this week on the 3rd try.  My DH bought a black/ white Papillion puppy for me on Sunday and I've been taking care of him.  His name is Dexter and he is 3 months old.  Such a cutie and smart as a whip.  He learned to play fetch the 2nd day we had him.
Thursday I took our German Shepard pup, Beast,  to get fixed.  He's 9mths old and weighs about 65lbs.  BIG difference from Dexter!  All is well with him and hopefully he'll calm down a bit.  He's quite the hyper boy. Took Dexter to his check-up this morning, stopped by work to give HR my release to return, also stopped by to get my son's paycheck, got hair cuts, and did lunch.  Today was the first time I felt like I needed an afternoon nap and dozed for a couple hours.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to work.  As of today, I have lost 20lbs.  I can't remember the last time I was able to lose that much weight.  I'm on my way!

March 22, 2007 - Pre-op meeting

Mar 22, 2007

The pre-op appointment went very well.  There were 3 others there with their support people. 2 of them were with another doctor and scheduled for Monday 3/26 so there will only be 2 of us on Tuesday 3/27. I'm all registered at the hospital and just need to show up.  My surgery is scheduled for 11:30am and I have to be there by 9am.

I was very happy to hear I will go straight to pureed foods.  I will be able to eat semi-normal foods; even if it is pulverized to liquid mush.  We'll be shopping this weekend for the rest of the essentials.  I received my order of Unjury samples yesterday... it only took 2 days!  I already have protein shakes, sf jell-o, pudding, popsicles, and flavored water on hand.

Work has been very supportive.  I will be meeting with HR to finalize my leave and take care of any paperwork I may have missed.  Tomorrow is my last day before my surgery.  I will be taking Monday off so I can prepare everything.  I want to clean the house, pack, and just relax a bit by myself.  Hubby will be at work but will be with me Tuesday and Wednesday.

I have just 4 days to get through now and then I will be reborn!

Pre-op appt tomorrow.  The finance company finally figured everything out and I received my funds last Friday.

I have actually been able to get 64oz of fluid per day in me!  I've never been able to do that before.  I've cut down portions and am getting vitamins and extra protein in to get ready for the healing stage.  I don't expect to be able to do this right after surgery so i want to try and store nutrients up beforhand. (If that is even possible)

We are coming down to the wire here and I'm getting excited and aprehensive as well.  This is a major step I'll be taking that will effect my life, health, self esteem, and my relationship with food, for the rest of my life.  The people I have told are getting excited for me too.  The ones at work come up and ask me about it almost daily now.  They know I'll be moving on to my new position when I come back so that is something else to be joyfull about.  It's been a long time coming.

I have a surgery date!

Mar 08, 2007

Yesterday was my consultation with Dr. Cottam.  He is very nice and confident of his skills.  He has a great personality and I felt at ease and reassured that he will take care and that this is for me.

Afterwards, I met with Denita and we scheduled my LAP RNY pre-op for March 23rd and my surgery for March 27th.  I wasn't given a pre-op diet or any special instructions yet.  I guess those come with the pre-op appointment.

I plan on only taking 2 weeks off from work.  I know I will still get tired but I work at a desk and computer all day so should be able to relax and continue to heal.  I have a GREAT boss and he is behind me all the way.

I've ordered some starter kits from www.bariatriceating.com and sample vitamins from www.vistavitamins.com. I hope I get them in time!  I plan on picking up some items for post-op like broth, jell-o, and Crystal Light just to get started.  I have also begun walking every night and cutting down on portions.  I want to do this right from the very beginning.
