Hi Dawn, Welcome HOme! I'm so sorry to hear you've been having a rough time! To help me get my water in I make homeade lemon/limeade using Splenda. Splenda is the only sweetener I've ever been able to tolerate, probably because its made from real sugar. If your drink isn't sweet enough, add another packet! 5 packets have no more calories than 2. *grin* Also, V8 Splash has a new diet product out that is sweetened with Splenda. Give it a try, its not too bad at all! I hope that helps!

OK - here I am almost 6 weeks post-op. I still have a drainage tube sewn into my side. I was in the hospital for 23 days. I still can't walk around my HOUSE much less the block. When am I going to get better? I have a pouch that's about 1 - 2 ounces. I have 2 small "holes" in my abdomen where my incision is healing from the "inside out", so I have to change my dressing 2x a day. I am struggling to find things to drink (water is ugh) so I don't get dehydrated. Please, any suggestions?? Crystal Light leaves a bad taste, juices make me have the clammy, sweaty reaction. I'm supposed to work in my office in 2 weeks. I am still not driving a car! I'm struggling with the protein powder shakes. Can't get them all in (either the amount or the taste)... These are just my facts, but if anyone else had these issues it would be nice to hear from you... Please... feeling kind of on my own. My dr. says I can eat "anything" but that's not true... he's a surgeon, he's more concerned that the tissues heal and that's it... I've lost 35 pounds so far... peace to all

Hello to all - It's me, Dawn, 18 days post-op and glad to be alive ^j^ First a BIG Thank you to all of you who posted and prayed for me; I felt your prayers, and they are still being answered... Kelly Heise, my angel, deserves her own full fledged fluffy wings; her mom is very sick right now and yet Kelly still found time to post on my behalf, here. Please send Kelly prayers of support within her own family. I am still battling a "leak" so NPO for another week; even to be able to swallow water will be so beautiful <G> I am weak from losing almost 3 liters of blood, but I am walking a little more each day and I am HOME resting comfortably. I will write more about the whole process later on my page, but for now I still think I would do this again, because I know I will make it and I will be healthier in the long run. Hugs to all -

Dawn, I'm sorry I didn't try to call you after your surgery. I'm hoping your problems are starting to resolve so you can get home & continue with this healing process.

Dawn, I haven't talked to you in such a long time but I noticed an update on your surgery on the main site the other day. I just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and hoping that things start getting easier very soon for you! Hang in there! Tara in Portland

SOMEWHAT GOOD NEWS, ON MY FRIEND DAWN: Well, it's two weeks out from Dwn's orginal surgery. She was hoping to be home and recovering by now, No such luck. I actually spoke with her yesterday and she sounded in good spirits considering all she has been through these past two weeks. She now has a feeding tube in for her nutrition. Her incision is open somewhat and is being packed daily to let it heal from the inside out. She is learning to do this herself as well as her feeding tube. She apparently still has a "leak", somewhat smaller than last week. They placed a tube in her chest to drain off the fluid that accumulated there from the leak itself. She is hoping to go home next week after another leak test. She will have to learn to take care of her tubes and wound herself but will also have a nurse coming by as well. She will just be glad to be home. This is not the experience into her new life she was hoping for. PLEASE KEEP HER IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS FOR A SAFE RETURN HOME TO HUSBAND, SONS AND FRIENDS.
