Hello everybody! My name is Doreen and I am one of many going through the bariatric classes at Kaiser Fontana. I am 46 and have a wonderful husband, Bruce, and three great children, Kevin (23), Sarah (20) and Michael (16). I have always been at least a little "chubby" but childbirth removed all doubt and I definitely moved into the category of obese. Like most people struggling with their weight, I have tried just about everything and obtained some success... for a while. I made the decision to have the RNY in January of this year. I came to a point in my life where I was tired of dealing with the pain of arthritis and fibromyalgia and borderline problems with hypertension and high cholesterol. Tired of worrying whether I'll fit in a chair at the movies or a restaurant. Tired of swollen ankles. I have several friends who have had WLS and it had always kind of freaked me out. But since I made the decision I feel like a weight has been lifted from me. I am going into Week #16 of my classes through Kaiser. I am so glad Kaiser is so focused on education and preparation. I am having the surgery through Pacific Bariatrics, but have not been assigned a surgeon yet. I am looking so forward to improved health after the surgery. I hope to be able to run after my future grandkids for years to come.
